    Hi all,

I started my car today and within 10seconds it cut out. When I went to start it again, it wouldnt start. I didn't leave anything on so it isn't that the battery isnt flat. When i try and rev it a bit, the needle doesn't even move. Maybe i need a new battery, not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

Does the engine try to start when you turn the key? If not, do you hear a clicking sound when you turn the key?

Not been cheeky but is it low on fuel?

It could be a number of things but keeping things simple an engine needs 3 things to work, air, a spark and fuel; check it has a clear air filter, apower is getting to the plugs and fuel is getting into the cylinder.

By needle I assume you mean rev counter? Have you the management light on?Might be the CPS (crank position sensor) if it is on.You do have fuel in there?

ya plug ur the second person to say it to me. The management light isnt on. is there any other way of knowing if its the cps. Also what is the cps?

You'll have to get it hooked up with a diagnostic computer.
The crank sensor (real name is crankshaft position sensor) senses when a notch on the crankshaft goes by and sends a pulse to the car's computer. This tells the computer where the crankshaft is in it rotation so that the computer will fire the spark plug at the correct time. This also allows the computer to change the timing under different conditions such as if gas of too low an octane rating is being used causing pre-detonation (called knocking) which is sensed by the knock sensor.

So basically im going to have to take it to a garage for them to hook it up to the dianostic computer?

The other reason I suspect it may be the CPS is that on some cars when it goes, the rev counter wont operate. The non lit up light might disregard that possibly.

Do you hear a buzzing sound for a few seconds when you turn the key to the second position?

ya the rev counter isnt working at all. tried it there a while ago and still no luck.

Oh right, fuel pump should prime up with a buzzing sound every time you turn on the ignition, possibly that then.
