Practice to Industry

I'm a chartered accountant with 2.5 years post qualified experience.
My situtation is I'm currently an audit senior in a practice where I see no room for progression or career development.

I trained within a big 4 firm, passed all exams 1st time and moved to the smaller practice I'm currently in.

I'm just looking for advice on making the move from practice to industry.

Firstly, would my experience qualify me for a management role in industry?

Has anyone made the move and would they have any words of wisdom to impart?

In the current economic climate would it be wise to move to an industry role?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I trained in small practice. Was getting abit too much like ground hog day and saw myself with no career progression long term if I stayed.
What I did was volunteer in an industry position as financial accountant for 3.5 months and got some excellent experience in and have just got a paid position in the same industry sector with a different organisation. IMO if I rotted away in practice I wouldn't have had a hope of getting it.
The thing with industry especially in the current climate is that they have the cream of the candidates and imo it's primarily based on your relevant work experience at this stage in said industry you are applying for the position in (be it manufacturing, pharmaceutical etc).
Having being Big 4 trained you have the MNC audit experience (in certain industries) coupled with small practice nuts and bolts accounting experience you have an excellent base to move to industry.
Roles would be Assistant FC or Financial Accountant that you would be applying for maybe even Internal Audit.

No you wouldn't be qualified for a managment role in industry - you'll have to start at the bottom as a financial accountant or something. Irrelevant of the current situation if you are sure you're going to make the move at some point do it ASAP. There are jobs out there, especially at entry-level positions in industry such as financial accountants - it just might take you a few months to find something you want.

    Best of luck.
