LiPo won't charge past 7.7v

Coincidentally closely following this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056164373 I have an issue with a LiPo I need some advice on.

It's a brand new G&P 7.4v 1200mAh 20C LiPo. Out of the packet it charged to 8.4v on an iMax B6 balance charger with the cells balanced @ 4.2v each. I used it for the first time on Sunday. At the first sign of it getting low I swapped it out but when I went to recharge it it was showing @ 6.8v (3.4v/cell) which is as low as I've ever seen any of my LiPos but shouldn't be beyond recovery. When I put it on to charge it won't charge past 7.7v. As I said this is a brand new battery that charged/balanced perfectly out of the packet and then worked fine but it's not behaving that way now. There is absolutely no bulging/distortion on the battery pack. It did not heat up during charging. Other LiPos charged/balanced perfectly before/after this battery including another of the same make/model.

Is it faulty, should I ditch it or is there a method to get it charging to 8.4v?

Sounds like bad cell. If you've been using a balanced charger, there's not a lot else you can do. You may have to just cut your losses and get a new one.
If it's brand new, I'd return it. Bad batteries happen, and while no company ever gives a warranty on a battery due to it's nature (same reason things like light bulbs don't have them), the vast majority of retailers will accept a faulty one if it's within the first couple of days and change it for a new one.

Here's a strange thing. I put it back on to charge and it made it to 8.4v this time although it took a good while to get there. I'm wondering did the charger time out the first time because it was taking so long?

I will keep an eye on it. I rotate my batteries but I will make sure I use this one next time out. It ran fine on Sunday, it was only the recharging that was a problem. I might plink with it tomorrow & try recharging again to see how it goes.
