    I've just installed Ubuntu but my external HDD doesn't show can anybody show me what to do because I'm completely new to Linux.

    have you looked in places ?


    accessories
    terminal
    lsusb

    should see the hardware listed


    or shutdown, disconnect drive
    startup wait till it settles and then plug in drive and type dmesg in terminal to see if it says anything about the drive
