Best of luck with the new site.

One suggestion (you may already have all this boxed off), not play related, get the paperwork done first, insurance, zoning for planning (you need an exemption) and your written permission from the local superintendent as now required under the CJ(MP)A 2009. I stress the last point as it is not a criminal offence to operate an airsoft venue without permission. Contact the IAA, they help many people get running and cut through the red tape.

    Steve

PS. Think your in the wrong forum.... ;)

    cheers steve

have most of the paper work sorted and need ideas to build up the site

Get some gravel on the ground because a lot of it doesn't look like it would be up for the usage. There is no exemption that covers airsoft so just look into getting a change of use. Get an engineer in to have a look at the building there to make sure its safe and ensure horses aren't still using the site as a walk through (The horses could get hurt or someone could fall in their dirt).

Try a few trenches in the open area, looks prime for it. a bunker in the decent there and a few towers here and there, 0000s of sandbags would be good too!

Cool, lots of work to be done with it so, d building is 100% sound. would bark mulch be better than gravel as regards to stealth? Are sandbags bout a euro each? Yea the horses will be out during d summer

Sandbags are a lot cheaper than that dude, around 32c per bag (then you have the cost of the sand though). Bark would just get mushy with the wet also, the gravel and the sand is where you'll spend the money.

Before you invest anything do a swat analysis to make sure you'll get your investment back!

Despite bark getting a bit soggy in wet weather (bearing in mind that, if it's drained well underneath, it'll only ever get soggy and no more), it's a hell of a lot easier to run on than gravel, as well as a lot safer if you trip and snot yourself. It's actually pretty popular in playgrounds for these reason.

The disadvantage is that where gravel is a permanent solution, given it's nature, it will eventually break down and you'll have to top it up a bit now and then. Less so during summer months, but more so during winter.

Personally, I'd love to see this option being used for a number of reasons (not the least of which is my dodgy ankles), but I can see how gravel would be more cost effective in the long term.

Fair play to you Spike, good to see a bit of initiative and at least you seem to be putting a bit of thought into it.

    :D:D:D:D:D:D good stuff man

On another note Spike I don't know how far you are away from where MAZ was but you mite want to check and see why it failed before you open in the same area, it could have been closed by a lack of potential customers. The site could be amazing and still fail dude, above all though man try to have fun and do your own thing with it ;)

Im setting up an airsoft site and was looking for suggestions to what I could have in it and ways to make it better.

    Pics of site http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=29314&id=112873805442165&saved

It looks a little wet, but being Ireland and winter......

An idea for what to add is maybe to have a theme type site. With the ruined house, how about a post warzone scenario, maybe a couple of old cars (obviously locked and safety first, just for use as barricades) maybe some old containers and barrels and the like. People get fed up looking at trees.

On how to make it work, and the comparison with maz, I think they didn't have a hook for bringing people back, the cbq site was ok, a bit small but fun, the part they were using for ctf was rubbish, exposed to the m4 motorway, too windy and way too easy to defend and hard too attack. It was also too big, airsofters skirmishing want to be shooting each other, not wandering around looking for tactical approaches.

The 2 sites I visit now work for different reasons

The officeblock because its subversive atmosphere and its uniqueness. Playing evenings during the week is also a huge draw as is the location in tallaght. You never know of you will get a 5 on 5 game or a 30 v 30.

But the biggest thing there is the fact that it is well run, not too controlling but sensible rules and good marshalling.

Redbarn - they have lots of space in a compact area with buildings and it looks and plays like a military training area would, well thought out. When you go to redbarn you know its camo and playing soldiers.

The hook they have is being part of a team, red or blue and they keep it moving with interesting games.

I wish you luck with it, I wouldn't work too much about ground works, as everyone expects to get muddy and maybe even a little wet.

But I think features are an important part of making a site attractive. Ask a redbarn regular to describe the site and they will say courtyard, loft, base camps. Not trees, thousands of those.

Excellent dude (post war) I love it, thanks for all this info, really appreciate it, I think d size of the site is perfect as me n a few buddies play on it and we always run into each other for a firefight within minutes, was up there today taking d photos and have to get d grounds done (was slippery as d roads in December)

    thanks again, Spike :)

    yup totally agree there!
just use cut offs from a sawmill instead...
looks like just normal timber for a fraction of the price

I wont name sites here, as Im sure the owner(s) put a lot of time and effort into their sites and to disrepsect them would not be good form at all.

But I have played at some sites where it has been nothing but tirewalls. And believe me, I wanted my money back.

I just love to travel to a site where the owner has put time and effort in. If I found a site with decent CQB areas, coupled with woodland- I would be in heaven.

Sit down and wright out a well thought out list of questions about games and sites you have played on. Then ask ten strong player's to head down this Sunday to play. Sit them down ask ur questions record the feed back and you will come up with some good results.

Can anyone suggest some good questions you would ask a targeted airsoft group.

PS I'm free this Sunday...may not be a strong player.

Hay bales look a lot better than pallets and tires, give em a few months and the grass will start growin around and through them.

Which side of mullingar is the site lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 572 ✭✭✭airsoftdes

it would be good to see a really good village with decent props
    a big military camp
    and maybe two rebel camps

that way you could run both milsim and your typical bb overkill sat/sun

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭Gaz2010

    ^^ what he said :D

the best of luck with this. IMO natural materials are always best as said above. fox holes/sangar and small trench system around the outside of each primary base could really add to the site if it's on the small side, can I ask what acreage the overall site is and does it have a separate area for parking/safe zone ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 531 ✭✭✭Ratsquad

spike i think the best way to gather info besides here is travel around the sites and get a feel for the way a site is run and the draw it has to you personally and other returning players, most site owners will be more than willing to help and offer advice as you can see here from the few site ops on this thread that gave some sound advice.
you can have a great site but your games and scenarios could be ****e.
it has some great milsim/battlesim potential.
    best of luck man.;)

Its 1.211 acres and parking shouldn't be a prob and there is a perfect area for safe zone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 748 ✭✭✭eadyzrx1200

If its only 1.2 acres, I'd go with some kind of cqb village / camp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,061 ✭✭✭Arkslippy

That's a small site relative to most. Maybe a cbq type.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 49 sniper on duty

if you want to get some ideas, get a few of the guys in here that have comented on your post, down to the site for a walk around and get feedback that way, as seeing the site first hand would give people a better perspective on size etc.. just a thought, but remember you wont please everyone... good luck with it.

PS...if your planning on charging visitors when its finished, make sure you have insurance in place, contact local guardai and let them know what your doing so when a member of the public wonders onto the site and sees a bunch of guys runnin around with guns, you dont have the ERU showing up,lol. and most important register with the IAA..

if ye think horses are good at tearing the bejaysus out of a field or a peice of ground, wait till ye see how much a bunch of blood thirsty airsofters can do to a good site.
also thought it was a lot bigger.
