baby urine smells??

    hi all, my son is just over 3 weeks old, and for the last few days ive noticed that there is avery strong smell from his urine!! he doesnt have a temperature and is drinking loads, but the smell doesnt seem to be going away,, i was just wondering is this a sign of anything or is it normal enough?? any replies would be most helpful...thanks.....

    My ladys always smelt of ammonia, very strong made my eyes water, she was fine and healthy and i never got it checked she is 11 now.

    every now and then my boys would have a strong smell of ammonia too.

    hi,, thanks for that,ive no idea what amonia smells like,but maybe thats what it is...ill see how it goes,if he get temperature or anything like that, but at moment he is drinking loads (every 2 hours during the day), thanks for your reply :)

    Ammonia smells like the stuff you dye your hair with, a very strong smell.

    If your concerned you can phone the public health nurse, or mention it to the gp.

    are you using pam*ers? I always found that there was a much stronger smell when i did, and they seemed to smell more quickly then other nappies.

    hi again, it could be the ammonia so,it does smell quiet like hair dye very strong,,,, and yes i am using pampers nappies!!! ill mention to gp at my next visit in 2 weeks time and see what she says... thanks guys.....

    Yeah I find sometimes the nappies are smellier than what fills 'em. :)
