Customs and clearance

I know this topic has been touched on a few times in Consumer Issues but I need some help.

I ordered car parts from US last week and they arrived in Dublin for shipment release on the 28th of January.

I was contacted by the courier FEDEX and asked to pay a fee of €290 in order to get the parts released from customs.

I promptly paid it and proceded to wait for the parts which I was told by the lady on the phone that I would have the next day, nothing arrived and when I rang about it they said that it is being held by customs and awaiting clearance.

I was under the illusion that once vat is paid that the package was then cleared and that was all that was needed, obviously not.

I was then told by fedex that I would have it the day after and nothing arrived and then the same story today. I asked is there someone I can contact about this and they said there wasn't, I asked could I go and collect the package myself from customs as I was in Dublin yesterday for work, they said I couldn't.

Does anyone know if there is someone I can contact to find out what the bloody hell their interest is in the package and when they will release it.

I needed these parts delivered last week when I was told they would be here, christ they are a pain in the ass in customs.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sorry Dudara, can I ask why this was moved to online buying and auctions?

My issue wasn't with the online purchasing part of the sale but moreso with customs in Dublin and their actions once the package arrived to them.

Or can you suggest a forum that might be more suitable for the topic?

    Thank you.

You should contact Fedex, not the Customs. Fedex provide the service of sorting out the customs tax. You obviously pay the tax to Fedex with credit card or something similar. Once the paperwork is sorted, they will then deliver.

If they haven't delivered yet, call them to organise a solution.
