Anyone know what these interviews entail or what level of maths or interview questions are asked.

Anyone else heading for interviews in the UK?

It really depends on the Uni that you go to. They may ask questions like how would you introduce or teach a certain topic. Read up on games that you could use in the classroom :)and analogies of Maths concepts to real life!! They are all into relating the curriculum to things that the students know!!

Where did you apply? I had an interview for Uni of Manchester last week, just waiting to hear back now! The interview went pretty well I think, they did the teaching task straight away so we didn't spend the afternoon worrying about it. We had 5 minutes to prepare a topic given to us and then had to teach the other 5 interviewees and 3 interviewers. Just try and research interesting ways to teach topics. I had to show how to order fractions with different denominators and I drew a cake cut into segments to illustrate it.

The english task we just had to circle the correct spelling out of 3 choices for several words and then rewrite a bit of prose with the correct grammar. We also had to write an essay on our experience of being taught maths. The basic maths was really basic. The harder maths asked us to draw 1/x and also how to prove that the sum of 3 consecutive integers is the same as 3times the middle number. So it was less maths that you needed formulas for and more just logical working stuff out. It was all really informal, we were left in a room on our own to do the tests as they conducted the interviews simultaneously.

The interview itself you need to be able to answer why you want to be a teacher, what makes a good teacher etc. And also brush up on your knowledge of issues in the education system over there...I just talked about the White Paper and the fact that there's talk of making it compulsory to do maths at A-Levels. These website are all really good.
