    HI guy
I ha my daughter at the start of Oct and had been split from my x before she was born. Im 26 and havemoved back in with my parents. I am currently recieving maternity benefit and will be returning to work 3 days a week as i was before maternity leave. I get 25 per week from my ex. I only found outat xmas that i was enttled to a lone parentpayment i had assumed this was only for unemployed people. I have been really struggling the last few weeks I have now applied and am waiting to meet the inspector what i really need to know is.

Do you think i actually qualfy for at least a reduced payment if not all.

Will it be backdated to when she was born as i was not aware i was entitle to this.

I pay my parents 50 euro per week for my keep but do not have a rent book obviously - do they tke this into account.

All info would be geatly appreciated

    Thank you :)

    Do you hi

hello;) my girlfriend had our daughter nine weeks ago and applied for the single parent benifit, she told them that i gave her 50euro a week which was her first mistake!it depends if ur parents are self employed or not and if both of your parents work,if so ur basically ****ed!she got her reply from them this morning in the post saying that she was entitled to a total of 17.30euro a week!!!which im sure you know that this amount barlely covers nappies and formula!!it also all depends where you are from and how big ur house is and what his parents do for a living!!if the inspector is coming to your house you should hide all laptops and any other fancy goods you have lying around!then again you never know when they are going to call!!Best of luck!hope u do better than we did!!and if they low ball ya appeal the **** outta it!!

    hi lil ole me
you are probably entitled to one parent family payment. the first requirement is that you are not living with the other parent of your child, or with any body who could be considered to be your partner/boyfriend/significant other. the fact that you are living with your parents does not make any difference to your claim. the department of social protection (SW) consider you and your baby to be a little separate family who just happen to live under the same roof as your parents. please believe me your parents means will not be taken into account. the inspector will call to see you at home mostly to check that you are living with whom you say you are living and that you do not have a partner living there with you.im sure the previous poster means well but his experience does not reflect any of the reality i deal with every day. as regards your own means you can actually earn 146.50 euro per week and still keep all of your one parent family payment of 188 euro for yourself and 29.80 euro for your baby. even after that only 1/2 of the balance will be deducted from your one parent family payment up to a maximum of 425 per week at which point you would not get any one parent family payment.1/2 of your maintenance from you ex will be deducted from your payment. if you are working more than 19 hours per week. or 38 hours per fortnight and your combined one parent family payment and wages come to less than 506 euro per week you may also qualify for family income supplement of at least 20 euro per week. i will look into the backdating for you but i dont think it will be backdated as you were getting maternity benefit when your baby was born.paying or not paying rent to your parents or amount of rent paid will not be taken into account, dont worry about any of those things. best of luck with everything.

Hi Mrs byrne, you got it right when you said i had no experience in this,i find it very hard to understand the letters they sent as does my girlfriend, she is 20 years old and lives with both parents one is self employed and the other works full time, she told the inspector that her and i were not together and that i gave her 150euro a month do you think that she should be able to claim the full amount?she had only worked part time in the past and she is a student at the moment not sure if that makes a difference, the letter they sent said total weekly maintenance 34.61 but then cuts it in half to 17.31euro total weekly means.
    Any help greatly appreciated
    thanks Cian

first of all cian your girlfriend was not being strictly truthfull about your not being together, its not for me to judge. in my experience this claim will not be long-term because of that, but we'll have to wait and see. if her means are assessed as 17.31, then if everything else is ok then she should receive 200.50 euro

i know shes not being honest but she doest have alot of choices at this stage as i just lost my job last week,i thought the number 17.30euro was the amount that she would receive weekly, that was the amount at the very end of the second page on the letter, and nowhere does it mention the amount 200.50euro.
at the end it says "total means assessed on this form (a+b+c)=17.31euro these means apply from 02december 2010"

sorry to be annoying you!!you have been a great help already!!!thank you very much!!!any further help greatly appreciated!!

ok cian, sorry if you thought i was criticising you or your girlfriend. does it not say at the beginning of page one of the most recent letter how much she has been awarded? simplest thing is for her to ring her local SW office or call in. please let me know how you get on. im 100% certain shes got about 200euro per week. your not annoying me. if you and she and the baby were to set up home together you would get 188euro +125euro +28,80.

"total means assessed on this form (a+b+c)=17.31euro these means apply from 02december 2010"

    Mrs Byrne is correct.

€17.31 are your girlfriend's assessed means, NOT the amount of the payment she will receive.

With her means assessed at €17.31 per week, the payment your girlfriend will receive will be a personal allowance of €178.00 for herself and a child dependant allowance of €29.80 per week, = €207.80 per week (approx).
