    Hey guys,

    just a quick one...

I am heading off on a RTW trip in September. All going well i will going to Oz indefintely but just want to see what to do with passport

it is up in Aug 2012 so wanted to just get a new one. can i just send off the form as normal and send my current passport back? or will there be issues if i am sending one that is still valid for a year back?

or would i be better going with "i lost it" and get signatures from the cops etc....

would prefer the first option but dont want any hassle with it so said i would check....

also is the time delay for getting passports all sorted now?

    thanks
    CK

There's no problem getting a new one when you still have a year left on your current one. Mine wasn't up til mid-2012 but I got a new one last year as I was going away & didn't know if I'd be back by 2012. I had no problems at all getting it renewed early.

Don't know whether the delays are sorted though, I renewed mine just before all that happened.

Don't say you lost it, because the replacement passport they issue is valid for only one year. Best thing to do is phone and ask, or if you're in Dublin, ask at the reception of the passport office
