Discrimination [Why can't I discriminate?]

Why can't I advertise an item for sale and actively exclude one group of people from purchasing it?
Insurance companies do it all the time, they discriminate against people based on their sex, occupation, their address etc.
Certain retailers do it by offering discounts to a particular group (and by definition excluding everyone else).
Hairdressers do it by charging more to cut a woman's hair even if a man walked in with the same length hair.
It reminds me of the Ozzie guy who advertised a house to let and requested "No Agents" need apply, but the newspaper printed "No Asians" in the ad.
There was a lot of righteous indignation until that was cleared up!

Theres a difference between exclusion/discrimination and market segmentation.
In the examples you gave, they don't actively (or inactively, even) exclude one group from purchasing the product. What they do do is charge different people different prices for the same product, dependant on which segment of the market they are in.

I suspect there's more to this story than the OP is telling us. Something to do with Adverts perhaps?

    Ok (I think!)
So if I were to advertise a product for say €10000 (or any price for that matter) and offer a 90% discount if you're the holder of a Irish passport (and/or you have red hair and freckles) this would be ok?
Cheers, now, anyone have BuyandSell's number?

I point blank refuse to let men have sex with me. I know, I shouldn't discriminate, but I can't help it.

Yup, that's how it works. Dublin zoo did that. Think they got a bit of siht over it too.
What are ya selling though? I don't have time to be trawling through the buy and sell looking for that ad!

normal irish human: hey there, im calling about the car for sale.

me: Ahh yes, what would you like to know..etc...

Eh hillo...It's obviously a rant about possibly non Irish time wasters.

Nah it's that when he hears a foreign voice he says car is sold so he doesn't have to deal with them.
I do it too when people not from Galway ring. I don't sell to non-Galwegians (or maybe I just don't like them).

When selling cars (if you mask number plate) make sure to show the letter for the county.
It saves you jackeens calling about it and turning it down because it's not regged "D".
