    Hey folks,
We live in a housing estate and both our neigbours to our rights have full UPC services but we do not. I do not understand why a house 3 meters away can have the service yet UPC say we cannot get it.

Does anyone have the phone number for a UPC installer in Cork so i could show him the short length between my neighbors cable terminal and ours. Its literally only a few meters. I know UPC installers have a tight schedule but i would be more than happy to pay money for him to come up even for a quick look.

If anyone has the number from an installer they had recently in Cork i would appreciate that also.

EDIT: Does anyone know why UPC wouldnt be bothered to extend a cable from our house to the neighbours house?

Refused permission from the house owner?

They usually dig and go underground in this case, but if there was only a few houses left on the run they may have left it.

Are all the uncabled houses on the one side of you or on both?

Unfortunately, due to the legacy of underinvestment by Chorus/Irish Multichannel, the Cork cable network is pathetically bad in some areas.

Lots of missing coverage, bad wiring, housing estates that were just never cabled because Chorus was too cheap to do it and used MMDS in cable areas etc.

I would say get directly onto UPC via Twitter if you're on there @weareupc they seem to have more direct access to the techies than the call centre does.

Don't just accept the fact that the house isn't on the database. If your neighbours on either side have cable, you should be able to be hooked-up, unless there's a huge distance between the houses or something.

Neighbours to our right can get all the services. first 4 houses to our left can only get MMDS, after that the all services are available.
If the cable were cut would this be a simple job to replace for UPC?

It sounds like someone in the past refused access to their property and left a group of houses cut off.

You might want to have a chat with the neighbours and see who is interested in cable / who would object to cables across their property.

If there are any MMDS customers there, they could be upgraded to cable which would be a HUGE improvement for them. Ex Chorus MMDS areas service is pretty limited compared to cable.

Also, what type of street is is? Urban terrace houses? Suburban individual houses (close together) or is it suburban big houses with lots of space (they can sometimes not be too interested in doing anything that involves a lot of road digging to serve a small number of customers)

We have already talked to our neighbours to our right and they have absolutly no problem whatsoever with UPC coming in. They probably feel obliged because we had allowed builders to come onto our property when they were having renovations done to their house.

2 of the 4 houses that are unable to get the full amount of services are MMDS subscribers at the moment. I said this to UPC and said they could send a sales person around to offer improved services to them.
Also, what type of street is is?
It is a Cul De Sac in a loop. All the houses are detached and are separated by around 3-5m. In our case our Junction box is probably only 10m from our neighbours junction box. We were discussing it the other day with them and we both agreed that 20-25 meters of cable could be easily installed (and well out of sight) and would have to go across a driveway (3m across). If UPC wanted to avoid digging up the driveway then they could go around the back of the houses (There is a green area behind the houses so no intrusion on more residents) and add maybe another 20m of cable because it is a longer route. I can understand why they dont want to bypass the 4 houses to our left but there is only one house to bypass on our right. Surely its worth the effort no?

Its not as if we are going to be low paying customers. Our monthly bill would be coming to nearly €125(or there abouts) with TV (All channels, Sky Sports, Movies, HD, DVR Box and 2 multirooms), Internet (30mb) and phone (expensive package with free calls anytime).

I also have no doubt that our neighbours on the MMDS services would want upgrading too. I just cannot see a reason why they wont send an installer.

Contact UPC and ask them if they property can be surveyed.
They checked ours out properly and unfortunately, the whole street's not cabled. However, you might have more luck
