GPS on Samsung Galaxy S

    Hi,

I have attempted to use the GPS on my Galaxy a few times. It starts off fine and plots a route for me.

But if I deviate off that route, I get a message saying "Data Connection Lost". But I am able to see my route being followed on the map.

Is there any other solution that I can try, other than the Google one, or has anyone that has encountered similar issue found a work-around?

    Rgds,

    D.

See, You set your destination and it downloads and prepares the map, this is so You can download on wifi and not use up data. If You then deviate it will have to download fresh data, needing a data connection. No other way around it with the Google Navigator

There's CoPilot in the market, its very expensive but is a full satnav

You should NOT have to pay to fix your problem. Google it. SGS has a huge amount of problems with GPS, but it could also be your network and a poor connection.

If it comes to it, take it back to where you bought it, and get a different phone (if I were in your position, I'd get the Desire HD or Nexus S). If they give you any trouble returning it say that the product is faulty, not fit for purpose. They can offer to repair it or replace it, or refund, and that decision is up to them, though you can ask for a preference.

I've had zero problems with gps. Its crazy advise to tell someone to get another phone when You can't be sure there's actually something wrong in the first place.

I'd say its more of a network or a data turned off issue, Which provider are You with? Have You background data enabled?

My point was that there have been handsets of SGS where the GPS is DOA, and that needs a refund.

Thank you all for your advice.

My provider is Meteor. And I have a data package.

But i am just wondering - my car kit takes over the SIM & I wonder if this prevents data connection.

I'll send an email to my mobile as I am leaving work to see when it arrives. Ordinarily, it should be immediate, but it will be interesting to see when I have the car started.

    Thank you again.
