I use to box about 3yrs ago and gave it a massive break had a charity boxing match back in october that was a bit of fun, but now looking to get back into it seriously, the gym i'm in I just noticed isn't on the IABA website, seems to be very few active fighters they said there's a lull after christmas good few lads there waiting to come back so beside's two super heavyweights doesn't seem close to anyone i can even spar at the moment, i'm looking at the IABA calendar and it seems relatively bare for someone like me I don't know what standard most of these events are and the likelyhood of getting put in them, have had 3 fights altogether and would definitetly jump into any of them.

Not sure weather I should switch gym or what to do, but the thought of training 5 days a week and no fight looking even probabal in the future is weighing on my mind, any suggestions?

Yea thats a tough one nothing worse doing all the training and getting no fights! or when you do get fights you get only a few days notice!
Usually the clubs will organise tournaments among themselves, and you will get matched up accordingly. Let your trainer know that your interested in fighting.
Not sure but, I think you may not be able to box in the Novice competitions after 3 years, so the next step would be intermediate which is a very high standard. (open to correction here)

I think the novices were run over the past few weeks in dublin.

thanks for the response, yeah they started on the 14th I think, missed it I don't mean i've been boxing 3ys did about a year and then took a 3yr break, calendar looks fairly bare hopefully it picks up think I might just wait and see if nothing comes to me, if there's no change in a month or so though will have to reavaluate

I think there might be a four year novice competition too. It goes from when you had your first fight, but they may make exemptions for you anyway if you havent fought in over two years. You can keep that in mind for next year.

Best thing to do is ask the others at the gym if there were any shows organised last year and if many were entered into them. This time of the year there should still be plenty of fights going on.

    change club NOW

im not gonna ask the name of the club your at but id advise you to leave it, i am assuming you have stated you want and are ready to fight to your coaches, they should be getting you fights at club shows, you shouldnt even be thinking at attempting the competitions up on the site, the novice nationals were on a few weeks back and their was a huge turn out 71 and 75 had over 20 fighters, the talent was pretty good for so called novices, at 3 fights you would have struggled big time id say the finalists in all the semi and finals were fighters with 20 to 30 fights easily, you need to build up your experience at these club shows between different clubs as this fight wont go on your fight card and then enter the county and province novices usually aound november/december time

You've only just a years experience with a 3 year break in between and your not long back to it. Alot of the lads in the novices have a good deal more experience, in saying that it's not too early to enter competition. Ye dont get better experience than fights.
The club should have regular shows as well and i'd look to fight in them.

I'd still say leave the club though (unless your close to super heavy). Super heavyweights make a good spar because it's difficult to get around the reach most of them have and they'll punish ye if your wreckless when trying to get a shot in. They can't be all ye spar though, their just too slow and I find sparring them is just moving and thinking compared to the pace and work ye'll do against a lad your own weight or lighter.
There are plenty of clubs that will take ye
