Hey, can whoever is flying over Portlaoise in Circles for hours on end, please go home cos it's starting to get on my nerves. Also, you might consider investing in a silencer or something, because whatever it is you are flying it sounds like a little white Honda Civic with issues.

Portlaoise is in the middle of a prohibited zone because of the prison. Civilian aircraft are not allowed over the town below 5000'. Therefore the most likely culprit is a Cessna of the Air Corps on official business. He'll go home for lunch eventually. Strange though, he usually circles Galway on Mondays.

That's pretty cool. Is it just one guy? There for the transport of a prisoner? I suppose it would be more economical to have a small aircraft to survey than a helicopter. Sometimes. Once in a blue moon we have a rather loud helicopter mooching about too.

Well I don't suppose it's the same pilot or pilots or even the same aircraft every time. But it's a regular thing to see an Air Corps Cessna orbiting Galway on Mondays or Tuesdays. No doubt there's a good reason for it. He could be top cover for something on the ground, maybe an important prisoner transfer which would be logical for Portlaoise.

I doubt you will find out honestly, they have a reason for being there.

They often use the Cessna to cover transfers to/from Portlaoise due to the nature of its "guests" and the no fly zone would exclude any other aircraft without express permission.

The army are sitting on the roof of Portlaoise prison 24/7, I wouldnt want to get too close.
