Specialist needed?

I am going to get my top front two teeth redone either by crowns or by new resin material.
Currently they are made up resin material. One is looking worse for wear and the other tooth still looks good. I have had full root canal treatment on the two teeth 2 years ago.
My question is what kind of dentist i should book myself into to get the teeth redone. Should it be a special restorative dentist? or will a normal dental practice be able to do such work as crowns etc?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Many general dentists will be able to do this kind of cosmetic work, it doesn't necessarily have to be a specialist. If by resin, you mean composite (sometimes called cosmetic bonding) it's often possible to get a very nice result using composite, without the cost and more agressive preparation (cutting) associated with crowns. It may even be that you are a suitable candidate for porcelain veneers, so it's worth discussing all the treatment options.

Many general dentists and increasingly specialists have information on their websites about the kinds of treatments they offer, and whether they lean towards the more cosmetic treatments; some will post before and after pictures of their cases to give you a chance to compare and see their work.

Overall, I think that the best advice to you would be to go along to more than one either general dentist or specialist, and get a few opinions, then go with the one you feel most confident will do the right job for you. Paying for a couple of consultations may seem a bit wasteful now, but in the long run I think it's money well spent.
    Good luck!

    Thanks for the tips.
I must have composite material on my teeth at the moment so. The dentist that originally did it is closed down now. And i know at the time that he said i would probably need to get a porcelain type crown in the long run (after 2 years or so.) Its nearly 2 years now and im getting married in a few months so I want my teeth to look good on the big day!
Thats why i was wondering about getting the proper crowns done now.
I never thought of getting a few different consultations.
I will try a few dentists in my area so to see what can be done!

The teeth sound somewhat broken down and it is important to get the best restorations you can as the better (ie fit primarily) they are the longer the teeth and root treatments will last. Try and get at least one consult with a prosthodontist as this is the area of specialisation. I will happily PM you names in the Galway area if you like.

I think that might be what i need alright.
My two front teeth are broken down badly after a bike accident but thankfully dont think there bad enough to need an implant, i hope.
Could you PM me a few prosthodontists names in the Galway city region, if there are any?
    Thanks for that Work.

Good Morning. Most 'ordinary' dentists will do work such as crowns, veneers etc, as well as the specialists. The important thing is to explore the options thoroughly before deciding, usually (tho not always) there is more than one treatment option. For example it may be possible to rebuild a tooth with tooth coloured filling material as an alternative to a crown but it may not last as long, a good crown, on the other hand, can look great but takes more time and costs more. Word of mouth from people you trust is usually a good guide. Hope this helps.

    Hi snow stream ,
Your dentist or specialist should also examine the gum line and contour around those teeth; it can make the difference between average or excellent aesthetics. He / she should note this.
