Flights to Porto are 115 euro + bike box at the moment which isn't too bad. Haven't really had time to look into the rest, accommdation, transfers, car rental etc... Once I do I'll post here.

Excellent fare. Only got qualified today, I e mailed TI to ask them how come I hadn't heard anything despite being no. 10 (in my AG) in the NS rankings. Got a phone call today-I was overlooked for some reason, they were very sorry, no harm done.

As regards the small car problem. well I think that depends on the car (will the back seats fold down), how many will occupy the car and how much luggage you will have. Big boxes take up a huge amount of room imo though. TMT are you going to be making a holiday out of this? I think I will stay on for a week, in Portugal perhaps.

That's weird, I use my hotmail with no problems, they replied and all. Do you have a link for the self catering accom?

    http://www.rentalia.com/
we used this site, once you search galica/pontevedra there are plenty of sites,
    1 wk=
duplex shared pool approx €500 +
    villa + pool €1000 +,
duplex/apartments seem to be best deals, depending on what your looking for.
    good luck!:)

What does this mean? Nirvana will be putting together travel packages for our Irish team travelling to ETU and ITU events. While you don’t have to book your travel/accommodation through Nirvana Europe, we would recommend you do to ensure a smooth and hassle free travel to your race.

    Packages for Upcoming ETU/ITU Events
A team hotel has now been selected for Team Ireland in Pontevedra, for the European Triathlon Championships in June and full details will be circulated in the next week to all athletes who have applied to race for Ireland at this race.

This will be then be followed by information on the World Championships in Beijing, World Long Course Triathlon Championships in Henderson and World Duathlon Champs in Gijon. Again, I will circulate further details on packages for these events in the coming weeks/months.

For any athletes who needs accommodation in Limerick, the team hotel where Team Managers will be staying is the Strand Hotel.

For further information on Nirvana Europe, please visit the Nirvana website www.nirvanaeurope.com.

We hope that this new partnership is of assistance to you to help ensure a smooth and hassle free travel to your next event.

I haven't arranged anything yet myself so I am going to wait and see what kind of deal they come up with. It could take a lot of the hassle out of it. Actually decided lately that we'll just be going for the weekend and not staying on, can't afford it and my GF won't be able to get the days off, I'm not bothered though.

How is the training going TMT?

    As expected-laughable prices! http://www.triathlonireland.com/assets/files/Triathlon%20Ireland%20Travel%20Package%20-%20Pontevedra%202011.pdf

Actually going to reconsider even doing the event at this point. The expense of it, suitable accommodation and the lure of Kilkee-all factors.

    your right, laughable,
getting family of 6 inc. accom with pool, car hire, bike transport, flights, for less than €1400,
    €870 per person for 5 nights?
glad i booked early, and family into the bargain:)
you have to wander how they choose these locations, poor accom. in city centre? so why have it their?
wont get any better next year, Eilat?
plenty of acom, if you can spare €700 on a a flight:mad:

    Just incredible isn't it?

Anyway I'm in now...no way back! Actually happy with my deal now.
Flights €115 + 80 for bike and 4 nights accom for €288 for me and the misses, 8km from Pontevedra, with a pool and beach 300m away. So got a car for the week (Fri - Fri) for €220 between the two of us. So all in all not bad.

Plan is Fri - Tues in Pontevedra then road trip along the coast for 3 days back to Porto. So all set I guess...now to get in shape

    Hey TooMuch,

how is the training going? Have you seen the course details? I hope your ascending/descending/bike handling skills are up to scratch! Are you going to be using a TT or Road bike? I'm between two minds. Here is a helpful link to the bike course profile. I have studied it in more detail and it is actually not as bad as I thought and although there seems to be some 'off road' stuff (i'm sure its not though) road surface looks really good. So I am now thinking the TT bike.

Looking at the profile id be going with TT. Seems to be climbing 7m to 170m over 8k with most being very gradual. You've 12 odd km then of fast bits that will be on the bars or is it very bendy?

There is a very bendy/tech section but I think I maybe fine. I am going to go with the TT and for sure coming back into town will be extremely fast.

tt for me as well, i climb better on the tt, its lighter than my rd. bike,
the only thing that would change my mind is if it was to technical, but does'nt look to bad, depite what the brief says,
no doubt i'll be proved wrong!:)
    as for the training....... nightmare,:(
having i.t.band troble for past 6 wks, back physio tommorrow for last session, fingers crossed,
    how you going yourself?

Sorry to hear that dude, it's a pity. I find the foam roller mighty for that kind of trouble, have you got one?

Ya I really zoomed in on the course and saw that while there are some very sharp bends at the bottom of fast hills it isn't as bad as I thought. I will lose time here but by having the TT I should make it up on the straight downhill sections and flat parts. Wish I was heading out there on the Weds/Thurs and have a practice on the course :(

My training has gone relatively well but not perfect. Much better than last year though so I have to be happy with that. wish I kept up the hill training for longer though.
