    Hi All,

I have a (nearly) 9yr old and by way of encouraging him to sleep in his own bed for a full night (I know, I know:rolleyes:) I've decided to really do up his bedroom for an 'older' boy. Currently, he has a bunk, with double futon on the bottom which gets great use when his pals are over....but I recently discovered that he hates sleeping on the top bunk..feels it's too close to the ceiling and he feels trapped by the bars at the side - so I'm getting a single bed for him.

Anyway, our house is only 2yrs old and his room is 12 x 10 with plain cream walls. The wardrobes are built in, so the floor space is 12 x 10 so I practically have a blank canvas to play around with.

He is football mad, so while I'd like to keep that general theme, I hate those football team duvets or curtains etc...so any ideas about how to incorporate pictures of Wayne Rooney in a 'nice way' and still make the bedroom look well, would be much appreciated!!

I don't particularly want to use blue paint just because it's a boys room.....but what colour could I use that would match a football 'theme'... My budget isn't huge but I'd like to be a bit creative and make it inviting for his pals still coming over, and for him to sleep in! Thanks!

I have 2 boys myself, and like you I'm not mad about football things in thier room, so I painted thier rooms burmesse ruby on the wall behind thier bed and ribbon which is a warm cream colour, got it in woddies, on the rest of the walls, I got a man united lamp and shade , as they through out a nice warm glow,, and a few shelves for thier favorite things. hope this is of some use. :)

Hmmm, wonder how you would do that!

Seriously, what about painting it a shade of green and incorporating a footballing themed mural (something like you see on birthday cards) so it does not have to be utd colors.

For the walls , green is a good colour, B&Q do some nice green paints that I used in my sons bedroom. You could add some wall stickers such as these or these. For the bed you get some nice general football duvets www.andyslinens.com have a great selection of all things for childrens bedroom, They have loads of football and other themed things.
Also let your son help pick out everything and do up the room, that way he will be all excited to sleep in it.
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on!

Choosing a central piece or a theme is a common rule of decorating no matter what kind of a room you're doing. However, when decorating a boy's room this can be very helpful. Lots of themes work well in boys' bedrooms. The main thing is that the theme should reflect the boy's personality.

    I'd forgotten about this thread!
I took minteriors advice and used green on 2 walls, and blue on one wall. I added a few (ikea zigzag) shelves, a basic football duvet (not a team one) with a football mat and chair...I also got a fab silver steel wall panel thingy (ikea)..it has magnets and he can put his posters on it (in the same way you would put something on your fridge magnet). He goes on and off players all the time, so it works well.

Didn't get the littler f*cker out of my bed on a full time basis just yet though:mad:
