When i switch on my oil fead heating on i get good heat downstairs but the rads upstairs aren't as good, Do i just need to bleed the system, does the system need to be off before i bleed and do all the rads thermostats need to be open, it's just some of the rads have never been used, would this effect bleeding if i didn't touch the never used rads.
The system is quite new and the boiler was serviced last year. cheers.

I am not an expert but I had that problem and the system had to be balanced.

It was a problem with three rads the furthest away from the boiler. Plumber had eventually to replace the pump. I'm guessing that the size of the boiler was just about adequate to pump the water to its farthest radiator. Could be wrong!

first I would turn the heating off and bleed all the radiators, downstairs first then up. Then if its no better balance the system, if still no better then change the pump
