following a few links regarding motivation for a schools team lacking bottle , it got me thinkin of the Lions in 1997

I was of the belief that the World Cup killed the Lions, the pinnacle was the WC , not so sure after re-watching the genius of Jim telfer, and all great Scottish managers - squeeze the arms and honesty

This was good but what made it good was the quality of the players both in skill terms and as individuals.

Now TV takes a snapshot of a successful Lions tour and Telfer is a good TV performer and always knows when the camera is around.

Lucky for him that the camera didnt follow him all thru his coaching career.

Many more unsuccessful teams under him than the other and many great players who he took a dislike to without great justification.

Without Wood, Johnson, Dallaggio and others he could have faded into history as just another big mouth with a great air of self importance.

Personally I value the Lions far more then the World Cup. Unfortunately the Lions concept as it is, is probably living on borrowed time.

I dont think i ever enjoyed a match more than this , the tackling of scott gibbs , passion, the underdog coming out on top
