ok so i'll just stick this in here. move freely Control Panel · Rec > Motoring > Motors

Anyway im just after coming off a fourm bout a roundabout , and its clear to say that 98% of drivers have no idea how the hell to use a roundabout. seriously what the sha*ing hell are they teaching when doing the driving exam. How in the christ does no one know how to use a roundabout. Answer clearly if you think you know how to use a roundabout. I for one can say i do , and at least i hope i do. im sitting my driving exam and i have not been faulted so i must be doing it right and 10 other people will tell me the exact same thing as to how im doing it.

Have you ever taken the right lane and gone left?
have you ever cut in front of a car?
have you ever put on your right indicator while in the left hand lane?

honestly i could stand at a roundabout and film the number of mistakes that are made. im sure you have all had it happened to you.

Seriously there needs to be more of a clamp down on how to use a F***ing roundabout.

Theres ads on tv about it, but they are ignored. The problem is nearly everyone on the road thinks they are right in every situation. I've been in cars where people sit in the overtaking lane because they are doing 120, indicate right for the second exit when approaching a roundabout because their dad taught them that way, put on fog lights when theres a drip of rain, etc.. and they argue as to why they are correct.

There is no enforcement of these rules but there wont ever be. There needs to be a change in the way driving is taught in this country and a change in the driving test.

lack of enforcement is certainly a problem but the lack of training is a bigger issue, we need to look at the way drivers are taught on the continent , its painfully obvious to anyone who has done any amount of driving abroad that standards of driving are much better.

Have you driven in France or Italy?

    Maybe try Russia or Spain?

Complete and utter shite standards of driving no matter where you go. There are but a couple of people who drive 100% to the book, nobody is perfect.

yes to all of the above with the exception of Russia and agreed nobody is 100% right all of the time. Just for a matter of interest how many miles driving would you average per year?

From August 2009 to August 2010 I drove 15000 miles. From August 2010 until November 2010 I drove 3000 miles.

From November 24th until right now, I've driven 3500 miles.

I've driven around Ireland, driven in Spain, France, Italy and my Dad has experience from Russia.

I'm also 19, in case you think I'm older.

So in 16 months of driving, I've averaged around 22000 miles.

That was about 9 weeks work when I was trucking and I did it for about 7 years, so I have some experience to back up what I am saying.

Still doesn't mean people can drive well in any given country.

i always go around roundabouts with my hazard lights on, that way im guarenteed to be indicating the right way, the rest of the time i just use none, saves me having to use my left arm. sometimes if its quiet too, if i want to take the '3 o clock' exit, i will also go against the flow of traffic, just to save time.

so many sodding threads on roundabouts lately lads! who the hell cares! i know some people are a small bit hopeless with them, but who cares.

if i can navigate my car around them in a manner thats reasonably safe and courteous to others, then thats all im worried about.

if someone else hits me through their lack of roundabout knowledge, i'l claim off their insurance, or if they have none, i'l see them in court.

why all this roundabout commotion lately people? we've had roundabouts for a very long time, why have they only became a problem of late?

OP, heres a ten page thread on roundabouts started less than 24 hours ago.

maybe you didnt see it, but i see no need for another.

    Hi guys!!

and corret me if im wrong but this seems to be guy conversation!! AS to roundabouts well most people don't have a clue even the few roundabouts in Listowel seem to have a problem RE: one idiot tried to go straight through one and ended up in Master Mc Graths garden!!

Im female !! hello!! passed my test at 18. (long time ago) I took truck driving lessons at 25 and passed the test with Limerick School of Motering! did I need a job at truck driving? heck no. just liked to know I could do it.

At the age of 40 my partner (a truck driver on the continent) asked me to check on lorried parked in the yard he showed me the basics and guess what? I got my HGV licence a week later! practice practice and confidence in what you think you can't do.

As for iddiots on roundabouts I agree they do not know jack **** on what to do.

what shocks most people on my driving skills is im pettiete very feminine a very girlie girl and I outdrive most guys!! not on speed (though Mike Marshall the clark of the course in Kerry thought me how to clutch and excellerate at once when I was 18!!). basically im one hell of a driver for a female

I hope you know that, by depressing the clutch, you can't possibly accelerate?

well thats super :) but nobody in here even uttered that this was a gender related issue.

but all the above is fine because a woman said it.

if a man had have just said all that, directed at women, he would be getting a good 'sexist' bashing right about now.

One thing that annoys me, is people going straight from the right hand lane on a roundabout, but the tipperary roundabout in Limerick is a joke! You have to go into the right lane to go straight ahead at rush hour because the fools on the roundabout keep blocking the yellow box. Also, most people are going left in the left lane and traffic is WAAAAY worse in that lane because of it.
