Suzuki Jimny - love it or hate it??

Hey everyone, I've been looking into getting a suzuki jimny lately. I started reading reviews on them a while ago and the reaction to them is so mixed. Some people say it's fantastic off road and crap for any driving with the exception of just nipping around town. Other people say it's one of the best cars they own, the opinions on them out there are complete 50/50.

If I got one, I would be using it to drive to work everyday. I go from Laois to Dublin obviously on the motorway ( not good maybe, apparently they turn over in cross winds! ) My trip takes a little over an hour. What's everyones recommendations on the jimny considering my personal circumstances? Fuel costs and general handling?

    Thanks,
    N.

Laois to Dublin 5 days a week? I'd be getting a diesel. Jimny not really the car for a decent motorway spin every day, reving a bit high at 75mph too.

How much do you want to spend?

Why would you be considering a mini offroader for a motorway commute?

I find they actually have comedy handling on the road, they bounce around almost uncontrollably on bad roads!

My father wants one of these to launch his boat and thats it,not much of a heavy commuter in them i'd say, good all rounder 4x4 light work though :).

I had one for four years and was very happy with it ...but ..I used it on small side roads and for short runs.

If you use it for a motorway commute you will sell it after a week, trust me.

The gearing on it is so low, at 120 it screams its little heart out, drinks fuel and is just generally very uncomfortable and not a nice place to be, certainly not for two hours every day.

I would rate it as a scarey and very very uncomfortable ride, and yes I'm still talking about the car :p

Makes about as much sense as buying a Fiesta for off-roading, IMO.:)

That is the fault of the driver - not the car.

My wife had one.. we loved it for knocking around in. But I wouldn't fancy 2 hours of Motorway every day in it.

Avoid the Jimny for your proposed journey OP. Not suitable at all. Might as well buy an M5 for trips down to the shops.
