CPC test query.........

So, I'm doing my C theory test on Tuesday, and am preparing away.

Now, I get a reminder by email this evening about it - all ok there.

But I started reading the small print and I see it says down at the bottom that, once I have the Learner Permit, that before I can apply for the practical test, I have to do the CPC Theory and Case Study Test's - each of 2.5 hours duration, first !

But the key thing is, it says this is if I plan to drive professionally, for a living.

But I amen't, and don't plan to. I am doing the C test to allow me to rent occasionally a truck to carry stuff to a show, or to borrow one for a home/diy use.. Either way, it's not for a living, so my reading of the CPC website is that I qualify for an exemption.

My question here is: how exactly do I get the Practical Test, if I am exempt from CPC ??

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

If your not going to drive for a living, you simply have to do the standard truck test. CPC does not apply to you, just do your theory first and then apply for your test.

...that's great, thanks - so I just tell them as I apply, I assume ?

When you apply online you just apply for the Truck Practical, I think it's €130 now but check just to make sure. If you're applying online just tell them you want the standard truck test without the driver CPC.

Why exactly are you doing the Truck test without the CPC? Most employers will require it?

....got the theory test out of the way: it felt like the Leaving Cert. ! It shouldn't have, but did.

But I have to say: thank god for CD learning, and practice tests. I took 19 practice tests and XX practice category tests..........and the test centre screen looked, and felt the same: which I think is a big help.

I have the book, and I have to say, if I was relying on that.............well, let's just say, studying was never my forté. Surfing around on a laptop, well, hey..........that's me !

I'm doing the truck test because I have occasional use for one. I have access to a 7.5t, but for instance I have to bring stuff to a show next month, and this time I need rent a 10t-er.

    It's not for work.

Besides: I like driving. Anything. I have the car, naturally. I drive a bike most days. I've done the IAM in the car, and Bikesafe on the.....bike :) .....and am aiming for my RoSPA test on it.

    .....hey, I'm bored. What can I say ? :D

Can you rent a truck with a new licence? I've never tried to rent a truck so don't know.

    Good luck with the test.

Does any one know what type of question could they ask me on CPC practical test, and if I am not going to pass it am I still gone take my driving test?

When I did the D test. It was practical 1st then CPC. I failed the practical and passed the CPC. Was given the results for both at same time, this was several years ago though. But I think they are still separate tests.
