PayPal Available Balance Query

Hi guys, I've searched for a previous thread on this, but can't find anything, so apologies if it's been asked before.

I logged onto my Paypal account this evening just to check what my balance is and realised that there is a big difference between my actual balance and my available balance.

The available balance is much smaller than my actual balance and I can't see any reason why.

There are no pending transactions, any buying & selling transations have all been completed, so I can't see any reason why the available balance should be so low.

Am I misunderstanding what available balance actually is?

There are no limits on my account that should have an effect like this. But the account is unverified - could this be the reason?

Can anyone explain why this might be happening? I thought I'd ask here before emailing PayPal help, just in case I'm missing a part of the euqation.

I'm not an ebay seller at all, I'm an Etsy seller.

I have an ebay accont but have never used to it buy or sell yet.
