Career A or B

So I have a choice to make and some input would be great:

Career A. I have been in for 12 years until recently due to being made redundant.I have the chance to get back into it again short-term 3+ months with a very remote chance of being made full time. The main points to consider:
    Short term
    Small chance of full time
    Upto 40k per annum
    Shift work

Career B: Just started out in this on work placement. Its in IT which I have zero background in. There is a good chance of full time work after this and in a newly emerging sector of IT.

    Great chance of full-time work
Initially 19k per annum(may take upto 3 years to reach career A salary)
    Office work, generally 9-5 Mon-Fri.

Finally myself and family are looking to go to OZ. Career A has a far greater chance in the short term to getting work there.Career B will take a few years to become experienced enough to get work easy over there.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

Where does your heart lie - do you want change, or more of the same?

There's that million dollar question. I honestly don't know. I like what I do/did in A and the money is great plus it has a great chanc of getting us to OZ. On the other hand B is something I'd like to get into but the ramp up time to equivalent salary is long and job prospects won't be great until I'm more experienced. I could however pic up on B when over in OZ. :-/

My personal opinion is take the 40K job. The pros are you've enjoyed this type of work, it may lead to a full time position (remote, but still a chance).

Also, if IT is something you want to get into, you could try learning some of this on your own time, so you wouldn't be completely pausing this.

If at the end of the 3 months there is no extension of contract, then get stuck into B again.

    Hey Boobar,

appreciate the input. Ya I was starting to think along the same lines as what you said. By taking Career A at least B is a future option where as its not so easy the other way around. Sticking with B cuts me off from A option.

    Thanks again. :)
