Basically, ac won't work from 1 (weakest supply) up to 3 but works fine on 4 (strongest supply). I've no idea what's causing it to happen. Is there anything I could check for myself before bringing it to a mechanic?

    Car is a '98 (N15, 1.4l petrol).

I had the same problem with mine, it's a 10 min job to fix if you have a soldering iron. Common problem due to corrosion due to it's placement inside the air duct.
    Good info here
Basically bridge the gap with some solder and it'll be grand.

There is a pic of the part here.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I had the same problem with mine, got it fixed last week, just take a trip to a breakers yard if you don't want to do any soldering.
