Hope this is the right Forum if not mods remove

Have a u[c digital box and its the same size as a dvd player. Have the basic channels + digitals but no sky sports or movies. Friend has one and his is only half the size. Was wondering is there an option to get a box with hdmi as one I have only has scart connections. Dont want to pay anything more and just wondering if such a box is available?

You can get a hd box with basic hd channels ( i think theres only 2 bbc hd and setanta hd) for an extra €1.25 a month as opposed to €3.75 for regular digital+

Do you know if this is still the case?

I rang UPC there today as I have the basic Digital box (below) and recently got a HD tv. I wanted to get a HDMI box but I dont want to upgrade to digital+ or get anything more expensive. The (very rude) person on the other end of the line was adamant that I would have to pay a one off charge of €50 and €5 every month for a new box. I said repeatedly that I didnt want digital+ or anything and she basically then just hung up on me. I am on the standard digital package (the cheapo) with broadband.

As i understand it as all the hd boxes actually have harddrives so there only available on "+" packages, saying that im not certain but theres probably an over all 2 or 3 euro a month extra for the basic digital+ hd package compared to what your currently on. And as for the €50 one off, This can be waived at discretion of the sales agents if you dont need to have an engineer out which you shouldnt as you already have digital setup. Just argue and ask to speak to a supervisor and threaten to go with sky and say they offered to waive installation fees if you transferred. I did that for my parents and they agreed to waive the 50.

No joy, they refused to bargain with me and told me their power to offer discounts has been removed. I was advised to order over the website where the one-off fee is only €30 instead of €50. Bit of a balls really.

The only other way i can think of is http://www.upc.ie/boardsoffer/ i dont think you qualify for the offer but apply anyway and you'l get a direct reply from one of there sales team and you could see if they can offer you any kind of concession, there easier to deal with through email the phone agents are normally a nightmare to deal with in my experiance anyway :(

If your not getting any joy from the UPC agent ask to be put through to the customer retention team. They seem to have more discretion in doing deals in order to retain your custom.
