What kind of products are you looking at? I hated their foundation, it really dried my skin out. But I love the Coralista blusher and High Beam highlighter, and their lip glosses are nice too.

Well personally I wouldn't recommend the Some Kind of Gorgeous foundation. The sales girl told me "one colour fits all", and surely it looked great under the department store lights. Not so good when I got home. But as I said, the other bits I got were great.

As a fellow pale gal I can recommend Bobbi Brown's and Mac's foundations, and Mac mineralise powder to ensure your foundation stays on.

Lightest shade in what brand? Bobbi Brown's Alabaster is basically white! I went one shade up to Porcelain and it was perfect.

I like some of their products.. ie, moonbeam and highbeam, blushers and lipglosses but don't find the mascaras, eyelines or eyeshadows any good really when compared to MAC or UD. And I don't think it's really acceptable to only stock 3 shades of foundation/concealor. Light/medium/dark won't suit everyone.

unfortunately i cant wear eye liner, for some reason putting it that close to my eye makes them cry a river :(
can you buy their stuff online?

I love Benefit - High Beam, Coralista, Dr Feel Good mainly. Agree with the other girls about their foundation though. I bought the light tinted moisturiser and it is anything but light - it's yellow! I had a foundation by them called Non-Fiction which I loved, but it must have been discontinued 'cause I can't find it anywhere anymore.

I used to be like that, but personally I think you're eyes have to get used to a pencil running along your eyes! :) I wear loads of eyeliner now, and my eyes still tear up a little bit, its natural! :)

tis finding the time to practice it, as my eyes even water a bit applying mascara

High Beam is brilliant. It's a highlighter, and honestly, if there's one product in my make up bag that I actually adore, this is it. I use it under my eye brows and on my cheek brows. It's nice and glow-y.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭E.T.

+1 for highbeam. Moonbeam is gorgeous too, it's a more golden toned highlighter, I always use it when I go out. Their blushers are really good too, Coralista is really nice. I like Bad Gal eyeliner and the Bad Gal mascara is good too (not as good as Armani, that's my new favourite). Not pushed about the eyeshadows or eyeliners. They're good, but don't stand out from many other brands.

Really wasnt impressed by the Some Kinda Gorgeous foundation.. have a mate who raves bout it and got it myself, didnt cut the mustard. But then agian her skin is much better than mine! Think I just needed more coverage. Didnt have great staying power either.

I find their mascara brushes way too thick (Bad gal in particular). Im tempted to go buy some highbeam after all the reccomendations though, I usually just use Soap & Glorys one or no.7 for that.

I adore High Beam. Like Novella, I put it under my eye brows and it makes them look great.

I got loads of benefit for Christmas some good some ok some not good. The blusher are definately good quality and stay on. I got the primer Im still not sure if its any good. I the dark eyes kit its just ok its just nice to have a palette with everything together but Urban Decay eye shadows win hand down. The high beam and benetint is good for cheeks. The mascara's aren't the best for 20 you could prob get one for half the money from a cheaper brand like max factor. The sales girls have this stop the customer policy and say something like "have you tried the new benefit eye bright" then you get roped in. I'm caught on to that!!

I love everything except the foundation .... it's a bit too thick and i think it smells bad but maybe that's just me !
ASOS sell it online , i much prefer that than being under pressure at a make up counter .

I'm not all that mad about Benifits stuff particularly there foundation and tinted moisturisers.

Anytime I plan to buy something from the range I try it out in Brown Thomas or Debenhams. Leave for while and see how it suits me, wears etc.

I either adore or abhor them, to be honest. I hated their foundation compact (can't remember the name of it, the round one with the record player on the front), hated their tinted moisturiser (SO orange), but loved their Play Stick foundation for nights out, if you want a good bit of heavy coverage. Hate their eyeliners. I'm a bit indifferent towards their mascaras and eyeshadows. Love their blushes - Coralista and Dandelion. High Beam is an absolute must have for me; it's definitely in my top three products. Concealers are quite good, probably the best I've used (always trying to find a decent one as I've horrible dark circles that nothing will work on) both Boiing and Erase Paste, though I've found that Boiing is a general cover up, and Erase Paste is better suited to just the undereye area. Love their Lemon Aid eyeshadow primer - I even wear it just by itself, because it really brightens up your eyes. They have a pink highlighter shadow which is okay, not amazing though. Aaaand finally, tied for first place with High Beam for my favourite Benefit product is Brow-zing - I have really blonde eyebrows, and the 'light' shade works perfectly to sort of normalise them. The wax really shapes them and makes them look so much neater, and the powder makes sure it stays on for aaaaages. It's amazing how much of a difference your eyebrows actually make to your face. Since I've started using it I haven't stopped.

Jesus, these people should gimme a job!

Edit: Oh, and That Gal primer.. it's good, as far as primers go, but not really worth the money. I'd say you could definitely find a cheaper alternative which is just as good, if not better. Smells nice though.

Edit take two: The one lipgloss I've tried (can't remember the name of it, the shade might be called Life On the A List though) is really nice - not overly tinted, just a nice amount. Natural looking, too. And it smells yummy.

I love their blushes and bronzers, foundation not so much. I've heard good things about they're tinted moisturizer though.

i used benefit for about a year! and only recently ive admitted to myself that it is a waste of money! the packaging is absolutely lovely, but all the products ive gotten, i realised i can get the same thing by any other cheaper brand! but i did find Doctor Feelgood brilliant to wear under ANY make up brand! its just lovely and makes putting on make up much easier! i love their perfumes tho!!! and 10 (the bronzer and highlighter) is brill, but doesnt last that long for paying nearly 35 quid for!!!! sorry for ranting! :D

I have their new one and I really like it too, was about 27 before xmas, don't know if it's still in shops. OP you might find that buying something like this is a good way to see if the stuff suits you. I'm gonna buy the full size Dallas and Coralista now, and use this for my handbag!!

I had You Rebel, Shhh blush and Bad Gal liner. Never thought much of any of them tbh, just expensive :/

I have a few things of theirs and like others here, really like the Highbeam (I really didn't get it when I had it first, but having got the hang of it it's great!). Have Coralista and Sugarbomb, and Georgia and love love love them all, wouldn't be without any.
Some Kind-a Gorgeous is pretty eh as a foundation, but I like to use it a subtle contour and find it great. (I'm pale though). I like Bad Gal mascara too but I don't know if I'd get it over, say, something from L'Oreal or Maybelline. I do love the Eyebright pencil, and the Bad Gal eyeliner, both really good products.

That said, I've found Model's Own blush in warm Glow to be a pretty OK substitute for Coralista, and have heard there are plenty of products which work in a similar way to High Beam. Haven't seen anything that has the same effect as Moonbeam though! I've got a Model's Own Cheek and Lip tint that has a weird taste but is pretty much the same as Benetint.

I really like some Benefit things, but I think I'm more a sucker for their gorgeous packaging than I'm impressed by the actual products. Their box o' powders are great, though (though if anyone can recommend me a dupe of Georgia I would be forever in their debt!). Honestly, the cult of Benefit is kind of overrated. They're nice for what they are but they are wickedly, obscenely overpriced.

high beam is amazing! But apart from that I don't really rate benefit, i prefer mac foundation and urban decay eyeshadows can't be beaten!

I would love to try it but I'm the kind of person who just wants to look. I probably would have bought alot of their stuff by now only the fake helpfulness is off putting. Its the same with claire access. I will not go in there. I remember one time I had headphones in, music on full blast and she still asking me questions.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭Twee.

I think you just need to be firm with them, don't be aloof or they'll try sell you the whole shop! If you go in mention some of the products listed here that you're interested in, hopefully they'll recognise that you've done some research and will really be able to help you out with what will work well for you.

I did similar in Mac over Christmas. I said what I thought I wanted, then she happily discussed the products with me, and some alternatives that would suit me better. Very nice and quick experience!

If you make it clear that you're looking around for something new but you want to try a few brands first and you're not definitely going to buy. I got to try the foundation in Mac before buying it, the girl there applied it for me but there was no pressure to buy :)

I am a total sucker for Benefit. I use Hello Flawless foundation. I think its lovely. Its really light but you can build up the coverage as its powder.
