Multi-fuel stove Regulations

I'm in the process of building a house, its a self build. We bought a multi-fuel stove when we started building the house. The plumber has been on site for a few weeks now. He went to install the stove in the sitting room and said it can only be used to heat the water and not the rads due to some new regulations. The stove can heat up to 20 rads, we will also have an oil burner but we thought we could use the stove also.

Has anybody on here heard anything of these new regulations for new houses ?

That plumber is taking you for a fool. Tell him you want to see the "new regs" and when he comes out with more Bulls**t tell him to gather his tools and sling his hook. Get another plumber in while he is still there and watch him squirm.

Tell the plumber that if he wants to get paid, then he WILL do the job 100% correctly or else you can get another plumber in,in his place.;)

There are regs on flues twin walls etc not a big deal as long as there is a chimney to drop a flexi liner down... pipes wise have to be done in min 1 inch from boiler to hot press he would need to check up on manufacturers instructions these can differ from stove to stove best of luck;)

I've been really busy and did not have time to post on here, between the house and a new baby. Just to let you know, we got the stove sorted, the plumber had to get someone else to install it ! He did not know how to install it.

Thats the sign of a brilliant plumber then aswell,he didnt know how to fit it,yet he tried to tell you a pack of lies to avoid doing it or getting it done.

For the benefit of other folk, based on your recent project described above, could u pen a few lines on the following points which are usually a source of discussion.

Is the setup open or closed?

How do the system cater for a power cut when the solid is going?

How is solid isolated from acting as a rad when its not on?

How many coils in the HW cylinder?

In what order are are they fitted from the bottom up?

    Thanks

The system is an open system, we use oil also.

If there is a power cut we have an extra rad upstairs which is always off and when a power cut occurs it's just a matter of turning the rad on. We also have two pressure relief valves.

As as I know we just have a big splitter valve to allow the oil heating work seperately.

We have two coils in the HW cylinder.

The stove is in our main living room. We have two pumps one for hot water and the other to heat the rads. Once the stove is fully hot the heat is brilliant. Ours is multi-fuel so it's just a matter of finding the right mix. I've heard Polish coal can clog up your flue and you should use smokeless. I'm going to try union nuggets and high heat mixed coal also.
