My parents live in the Mourne Area and in their local newspaper (Mourne Observer) has an article about the Digital Switchover. The article is stating RTE is going to be broadcast on UK Freeview from Divis later this year and a number of other claims. Is there any truth to this and how exactly will this happen? It does not mention Limavady transmitter which is strange.....

yes there are threads on this here already if you do a search.
It doesn't mention limavaddy because perhaps thats not receivable in the mournes region?

Edit as a lot of people are mis spelling the irish saorview as soarview (For the life of me I don't know why..)

Can I keep referring to freeview a fredview? and freesat to fredsat?

Because in the English language there is such a word a 'soar' but not 'saor' so they kindly correct the spelling for us...

The Truth Shall Make you Fret.

    or maybe Fred.

Later 2011 sounds unlikely. Maybe late 2012 or early 2013. Unless they have mixed up the N.I. RTE "Freeview DVB-T2" lite Mux reports with Saorsat. Saorsat will be available to all Ireland at end May 2011, or June 2011.
    See http://www.saortv.info/satellite-saorsat/
Irish TV on Freeview in N.I. ?

There was some discussion of this. It would have been RTE1, RTE2 and TG4, not TV3. It was dependent on space on the Freeview Multiplexes (in N.I. Only). It was probable that only TG4 would be carried. Since then the Saorsat plan has developed and given lack of space, transmission costs it seems the Freeview plan will be dropped and N.I. viewers expected to either receive Irish Saorview Transmissions or use Saorsat. The most recent plan calls for a “DVB-T2 lite” Multiplex at two sites in NI, Divis and Brougher, but not Limavady. This would have RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 and need a UK “freeview HD” TV or setbox. A regular “Freeview” or “Saorview” receiver won’t work. This would start end of 2012, or early 2013, i.e. after N.I. ASO which is in 2012
    From http://www.saortv.info/about/n-i-digital/

Saorsat in theory is a copy of Saorview, 6 TV and 10 Radio today and 9 or 10 TV eventually, with 1 HD part time maybe from May and 3 or 4 other HD channels later.

I'm sceptical that the Freeview Lite Irish TV on DVB-T2, (no sooner than 2012) costing maybe €300K to €1M a year will happen. Limited coverage, maybe no HD, only 3 channels. Saorsat costs nothing extra for N.I. Coverage and may start by June 2011 with 7 TV and 10 Radio. Saorview from Irish TX sites should cover maybe 45% to 55% of N.I after A.S.O. in 2012.
Clermont Cairn is blocked to north at the moment on Digital.

Saor = Free in Gaelic. Soar is what very big birds do.

Depending on which part of the Mournes Area, could the answer to Freeview HD reception perhaps be Isle of Mann TX for BBC HD,and Carlingford for RTE HD.?
