Why is there a waiting period when you take out medical insurance, or increase your cover? And sometimes this can be up to two years even if medical condition is not a pre-known condition.
If you take out house or car insurance and something happens, you can claim straight away.... Seems like a bit of a con

So that they can rule out the possibility that you changed your plan so that you would be covered for an ailment you weren't previously covered for but had found out about.

Thats Mentioned already, but they make you wait 2 years for cover EVEN if the condition was not previously known

You might know about it but it might not be documented.

You might notice you are having breathing difficulties every few months that seem to be getting worse. You take out a VHI policy. A few months later the symptoms start up again worse than ever & you're glad you took out that policy!

It's obvious when you think about it.

yea... how many people ignore medical conditions for years...

If private health insurance is important to you, buy it immediately. It's called insurance for a reason.
