Had a great read of a thread called 'worst holiday destinations' and now there doesn't seem to be anything left!! I know everyone has their opinions so i'd like to hear some positive ones :)
Last year I was on my favourite holiday ever...10 days in sorrento, taking in pompeii and capri, then took train to Rome for 5 days. The holiday covered everything ... Sun, beautiful scenery, delicious food wine and icecream :) , things to do but also a beautiful relaxing place, culture, sight seeing ....
Basically I would like something similar and I don't really mind where. i loved that the holiday was city and something else combined. Its for me and my boyfriend.

Any opinions greatly appreciated :) Thanks.

Everybody's idea of a good holiday is different. Twentyfive years ago, I would have settled with just some sunshine and a load of cheap beer and of course be nourished with hamburgers and chips. Of course all the "gang" would go also - fellow drinkers some who never made it outside of their apartment or the bar on site.

A year later, I just wanted a place where my wife and I could enjoy walks, sunshine, good food and of course some drink. We met up with other couples also and unlike everybody else we would remain in contact after the holiday. But, we had great holidays and never maintained the contacts.

Then we had some kids and couldn't afford holidays except renting wrecks of buildings in Donegal. But, it was a holiday. Never mind the cold, the wind and the rain. We even stayed in mobile homes and experienced the draughts, the mud and running out of gas in the middle of the night.

For a couple of years we made it to Wales for holidays. Wow, we're back into going abroad. Roads where you knew the roadsigns told the truth. Supervised swimming pools. Affable people.

Eventually, we could afford to go to Turkey (Bitez). Loads of people like ourselves with loads of kids. Plenty of sunshine, plenty of glorious cheap rice beer. Food like we never ate before - hot yogurt on green leaves. Beautiful restaurants and each one served nearly exactly the same food. We came across Celtic and Rangers jerseys for the first time. Holidays were back to what they should have been again.

Kids grew up and didn't want to know us and they went on their own holidays.Their holidays were now as described by me on the first paragraph above.

We do the city thing to different cities during the year - New York, Paris etc. We latched on to the "culture" in Andalucía for the summer where we spend some months. Our kids now married join us and the cycle starts over again. And what were their favour holidays - Yep, you've guessed it - in the rain playing scrabble at night and fiddle playing of county Donegal.

Therefore, you can assume that what somebody enjoys on holiday may not what somebody else enjoys. Just go and enjoy.

    OP.

From the holiday in Italy you described, I think you'd love backpacking along the coast of Croatia.

Great beaches, plenty of ancient ruins to see, amazing islands, friendly locals....I could go on and on....

Leper, lovely story, definitely rings true, I know what you were saying. I am looking for suggestions similar to what we did last year.

    How about Greece.
Head to athens & then go island hopping. Loads of things to be seen & do & also plenty of beaches to relax.

I'd second Croatia, abosultely beautiful and as you mentioned in your first post you kinda want something with a city break aswell as a sun holiday all in one? Itd be definately up your street so!
Im looking for something much the same as you, and your trip to Sorrento sounds perfect! Think i might rob your itinerary ;)
