All Ireland club junior hurling championship

    Seen there's a good interest in the junior club hurling championship on this forum I decided to open a thread on it. Fixtures are as follows;

Bearna Na Forbacha (Galway) v Meelin (Cork) 2 30pm Eire Og,Ennis.

John Lockes (Kilkenny) v Inniskeen (Monaghan) 2 30pm St Loman's,Mullinagar.

By the bookies the Cork and Kilkenny teams are favourites to advance to the final. Don't know much about the Kilkenny and Monaghan teams. Obviously the Kilkenny team have to be highly fancied with the strong tradition of hurling in the County. The Monaghan team won the senior hurling championship in their county and competed in the Ulster junior series which they won.

Meelin have been very impressive the past 12 months and won out Munster with relative ease and had another comprehensive victory against Fullen Gaels in the All Ireland quarter final in Birmingham last weekend. Bearna Na Forbacha were only formed in 1992 and have had great success in their short time as a club with last weekend's Connacht Final victory been their greatest moment.

Seriously happy to see that Meelin won their game - 16 v 1-4 I think.
They really are the club of the year in Cork IMHO
They will be hard to beat in the final if they perform as they have done to date.
Also Ballymartle won their game in the Intermediate Championship - double header in Croker on feb 13 for the 2 Cork teams !!
    That would be some double!

Meelin made hard work of beating Bearna Na Forbacha today 0-16 to 1-4. Today wasn't 1 of their better performances yet they were far too good for a strong physical Bearna Na Forbacha team who scored only 1 point from play in the whole game.

Meelin were guilty at times of playing the ball short and on many occasions came off worse in the 50/50 battles that ensued and could have been punished greater if the Galway team had a few decent forwards.Still it's a good sign of a team that wins comfortably not playing at their best,I reckon they'll be very hard to beat in Croker.

John Lockes from Kilkenny will meet Meelin in the final after they defeated Inniskeen from Monaghan 3-12 to 1-9. Should be a great day on Sunday Febuary 13th up in Croker!

Congrats to Meelin on a strong performance. To me they proved why they are the favourites to win the All-Ireland. They only went behind once after we scored our goal but they showed class and consistence in how they played. There was a 5 minute spell after Curran got sent off that Meelin seemed unsettled by our new found determination but they pulled away after that. A great performance from your full-back line and the forward in general. They were by far the better team and made us look bad.

Best of luck to them in the Final.

Cheers lad thanks. Not much of an atmosphere there as Barna had very little support. I think it is more of a football area?

Indeed we were Galway Senior County Championship Semi-Finalists last year so hurling comes second.

All Ireland Club Junior Hurling Final

    Meelin(Cork) v John Lockes(Kilkenny) Sunday Febuary 13th

    Venue,Croke Park. Throw in 2 00pm.

A real battle in prospect here between these 2 clubs. While we know about how good this Meelin team is are their any Kilkenny posters on here who can tell us about the team from Callan? They seem to have had a relatively easy passage through the Leinster and All Ireland series so far, very similar to Meelin in Munster and I believe they were a senior team not so long ago so they sound like tough opposition for Meelin. As soon as I hear about radio coverage of this game I'll post it here on the thread.

Found this on a Cork website:

John Lockes were relegated from Intermediate 2 years ago and beaten in the Junior Final last year. Before that they rotated between Senior and Intermediate since 1993 with 2 intermediate titles and I'd say about 6-7 years in the Senior Grade. Ye'd remember John Power as a previous inter county player. They were narrowly beaten in the minor A final last year and the team is made up of a number of players from that team including 3 All ireland Minor winners from this year. Apart from that there are 5 U-21 All ireland winners on the team from various years and another who played with an unsuccessful U-21 team, there are another 2 players who have played in All Ireland Minor Finals. 2 of the starting team have Senior Inter County experience with one holding An All Ireland senior medal.
Best of luck to both teams.

With less than 48 hours to go to Sunday's final the excitement is fever pitch in Meelin at this stage! They have their own "up for the match" special in the local hall tonight which is sure to be a mighty craic!

Meelin will have a huge support in Croker on Sunday with 9 buses leaving the village between tomorrow and Sunday morning and 2 buses going from the Duhallow area picking up at various towns and villages. There's also Meelin exiles flying in over the weekend from various overseas destinations to cheer on their team on Sunday.

I won't be able to make Croker on Sunday but I'll be tuning into Cork's C103fm for live coverage of the game and also the Intermediate final between Ballymartle and Dicksboro. 2 cracking games in store I reckon.

I'll have the radio on aswell - could be a good day for club hurling in Cork!
Win lose or draw, getting both our junior and intermediate champions to the final is very good indeed, both to win would be a fantastic achievement!

What a day for Cork hurling as ....

Ballymartle are crowned All Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Champions !!!!!

It sounded like a simply incredible game of hurling - an injury time goal won it for Ballymartle.

    Full time in Croke Park Ballymartyle ( Cork ) 3-15 V Dicksboro ( Kilkenny)1.20

What an incredible day for Meelin hurlers! This will be a great boost to hurling in the Duhallow division which has always been noted as a football stronghold. This is an amazing victory for Meelin hurlers, the long hours training and no social life at the weekends will change I'm sure for the next few weeks!

The match itself by was a dour enough affair according to the radio. John Lockes hit 8 wides in the 1st half and Meelin went in at half time 2 points up. The 2nd half Meelin were the dominant team yet Lockes hit more wides again as Meelin struggled to turn possession into scores. The final whistle was greeted with great scenes of joy in Croke Park according to my brother's text message!

Delighted for Ballymartle in their last gasp victory over Dicksboro. There's a saying play till the final whistle and Ballymartle done that today and got their just rewards. Not often that Cork hurling fans can celebrate a double over the cats!
