A great gun! Had one and highly rate them for the money they are!

But if the money for the gun is tight..... You need to think about can you afford to feed a centrefire? The .223 would be considered the cheapest centrefire but even at that the cheapest ammo would be more or less 15 euro for 20.

What sort of money was it, looked at one last week myself €700, dealer is giving me €500 for my hornet, which I think is a good deal.

    this one was 500

no scope on it doe but a very clean gun

to be honest im haven trouble deciden between hornet or 223

its my first center fire and im only really gettin into fox shooting

plus cost of running the gun could be a deciden factor also

I bought my CZ hornet new and still only have about 130 rounds or so gone through it, the original scope was a tasco and useless i bought a good Leupold of boards here and it holds zero perfect.
I am or was buying ammo for €38-€43 per box of 50.

Both my son and I have CZ 223's and both guns shoot better than either of us. He has the Lux version and I have the Varmint.
As to scopes I go against the advice of many here and say that you can use a good but not expensive scope on the 223.

I have gone from a Niko Nighteater to the Bushnell range of scopes and my son uses a Bushnell as well.
The Bushnell Banner or Legend range would do you well and that is what my son is using on his CZ Lux. And be aware that the drop stock on the Lux rifle is better used for the open iron sights that are fitted to the rifle as your cheek is resting lower.

Ammo that shoots well and is the cheapest to use are the American Eagle at about €13/15 a box of 20 rounds, hollow point, not the full metal jackets.

and that ammo is good enough to hunt with i take it they are a nice rifle alright but ive never used either 223 or hornet so thats why im unsure
if i get a good deal with the cz i might take it as it isnt to hard on the pocket to feed and your also getting a bit more power for the price

sorry for the siily question but whats drop stock mean

The 223 is soft on recoil and a nice gun to both use and fire, and cheap enough to run.

Yes that ammo is good for taking out a fox, not as good as the balistic tipped rounds @€;28/30 for 20, but still OK I'v taken many with them.

Never a silly question I'v asked plenty of 'em in my time.

I think a lot of dealers sold the Lux model 'cos it was a little cheaper and lads buying them didn't know any difference at the time of buying.

The CZ Lux stock is lower so your cheek is lower and better to see down/through the open sights. And the CZ Lux model has the open iron sights fitted as standard.

Where as the other CZ stocks are higher and better for when a scope is fitted. So your eye is in line with the scope 'cos your cheek is raised up a little.

It was only a couple of years back I was asking all the questions and I still am.:o

Get the 223 you won't regret it. Shop around as there are good deals to be had out there, use the dealers WiKi in the 'For Sale' section to find their phone numbers.
The CZ are a good basic rifle, in many different models, with a good trigger that can be adjusted for pull weight to suit your own style of shooting.
