Was out for a walk this morning with the golden retriever(he's just a pet but he needs to be walked).
Anyway I was wandering along a wood road minding my own business, listening to the IPod.
Dog was gone missing in the woods as usual and I noticed a shadow or movement off to my left in the woods.
Next second 11 deer came busting out of the wood all around me(does, prickets)followed by the dog !
They were so close that I could have touched one or two of them.
Frightened the sh*** out of me but great to see :)

    Tell me about it !!

The place is crawling with them, spotted about another 6 or 7 more during the course of the walk.
But you'd be safer in Beirutthan up there after dark.

i'm from south tip and i can tell you you will see them in the forestry when you are walking your dog but go out to the farmers fields and all you will see are tracks and plenty off them but no deer. they are very nocturnal at the moment and dont like being out of cover by the time the sun comes up.
a lot of lads coming this way shooting.

Deer seem to be the same all over this year. Not staying out late at all.Over hunting i think.Last few years i was meeting deer up to ten in the morning,This year even with all the cold weather the deer down my way seem to be going back b4 first light.I also shoot up in the south tipp direction.

you dont have to far to go, there are lads coming from dublin and kerry to name a few.
i'd love to know how many deer there are actually are out there

I have some good permissions up the Nire direction but i have heard that lads from Dublin and further a field have been shooting up that way all summer on section42s.This isnt going to last.It cant sustain this.

i have to agree with you there. i have nothing against anyone shooting and my record shows i have taken a few lads out to show them the ropes but some lads are greedy and are milling the population.
i hope for everyones sake this recession is over sooner than later

I dont just blame the recession.I know of lettings up there going for over 6k.You can be sure that the people paying Coillte these crazy prices are trying to recoup their investments.Gamedealers now are given them a means to make some of this money back.

it wouldnt be in a lads interest to shoot the sh$t out of his lease to recoup investment. you would only be ruining your shooting for following years.

it wil be interesting to see if this recession lifts, what affect it will have on poaching. a lad was telling me during the week of another lad we both know who has shot 50+ deer this year, this fella is out of work.

People never seem to know this and only complain when the shooting goes bad. Then they will move on and shoot the sh!te out of the next lett.

Would a lead not be a good idea there?

The boys on the lettings had the money in the first instance to secure them. I wouldnt be too concerned about them. Plenty of other 'elements' out there doing much more damage.
