Well, we need more information first. What type of car are you connecting it to, and the year?

Secondly, there's constant reports of this particular type of interface 'not communicating' with the car, when it's normally driver issues on the laptop instead. Make sure your software is installed properly, and that there's no uninstalled devices in your device manager.

theres also reports of quite a few chinese knock offs floating around that simply dont work.

however, it took me a lot of fiddling to get my elm327 up and running the first time. what software are you using it with?

I've tried conecting to a 00 Lexus GS300 but "Interface not found"
I've also tried connecting to a 10 Auris, same "Interface not found"
I got a connection using PCMSCAN, but every other program, "ScanTool.net", OBDspy, Easy OBDII, same problem,
I've established a COM port, so its nothing to do with com ports.
So, anybody know what "Interface not found" is,

PCMSCAN seems to be the best, not just the only one that works, but before I spend $100 on a licence to unlock all the features, anyone experienced simular problems?

well a 00 lexus is unlikely to be obd2 compliant, as it only became law in 01, so that could be your problem there.

as for the 10 auris, im not so sure. simple things, is the ignition on? is the socket clicked in fully? some can be quite fiddly.

personally im using easy obd2, so cant comment on pcmscan.

Instead of mucking about with buying sofware online and trying to get it to work why not just buy something like this...

    http://www.sealeypower.com/item.asp?item_id=132536&prom_id=100153

I use one of these for quick code reading and basic diagnostics and its worked on any OBD2 system I've used it on.

Have one and I could never get it to connect to anything. I have a 01 Transit and a 02 Focus with an OBDII connector on it and I can't get it to connect, no matter what software i use

Unless someone can suggest a free software that works?

making a safe assumption that your transit is a diesel, then it wont be obd2 complaint either.

the general rule for 99% of vehicles, is that only petrol vehicles sold from 2001 onwards and diesel vehicles from 2004 onwards use obd2.

Was wondering about that, Thought I'd heard that from somewhere before.

I don't have the s/w that came with it when it was bought, so I've only googled for stuff etc....
