Neighbour of mine,Also have been friends since childhood is looking at taking advantage of the scrappage deal on her 12yr old car.
She was looking att the seat Ibiza tdi today and got a price of somewhere around the 12.5k mark ( I assume that was inc. scrappage)

Are there any better dels out there i should tell her about?
Did i read mention of a Clio diesel being a good car??

    Suggestions welcome

    Cheers

Does she really need a diesel - as you pay a premium for what? 15 mpg better in small car?

I did the maths once on a FIAT500.. I was in the UK then. It would take 100,000miles to break even with the diesel over the petrol.

    Just a thought.

Loads of small diesels out their. How much does she want to spend? What kinda aof driving does she do? ie once a week to church, or city driving everyday with some weekend away stuff? Is there a brand of car she likes?

The old advise of getting a Diesel over a petrol and basis it on mileage is probably on the way out. People want Diesels, cheaper to run, 10c approx per litre, lower CO therefore lower tax and better MPG.

    yeah,
She works in a bank and was recently transferred to another branch.. She will possibly be doing 600/700kms per week now.
She is set on diesel as it will be her car for many years to come.

I would run the same kinda mileage, I drive a 1.8 diesel Mondeo and would get just under 50mpg, a 60 litre tank would get me 650 700 miles.

Back on topic, The fiesta diesel should be a decent enough car. Plenty still on the roads, the TDCi engine is running around 8 years now, so most problems should be ironed out or easy to find and fix. Not sure of the scrappage on these. Personally I would steer clear of any french cars, the electrical issues will break hearts in a few years.

Play it safe and suggest a yaris. Anyone I ever sold one to never had issues and the amount of repeat business was remarkable.

Safe bet reliability and resale wise. Proven mechanicals and great safety.

What sort of money are they in the scrappage scheme and what engines do they come with?

Toyota are saying 10765 so that would make a 5 door with metallic around 12100

    Engine is 68hp 1.0 3 cylinder.€104 tax

I was on a similar exercise for my daughter (still am) and I priced the Yaris in O'Mara motors in Limerick for €12,000 with scrappage, buy before end of January (tomorrow) and you get 3 free years servicing (probably on 3 services but I'm not sure of the T&C).

Other cars with scrappage that I have priced are:
    Micra €12,450
    Fiesta €12,800
    Corsa €12,600
    Kia Rio €12,450
    Clio €9,000

She was wondering if I could possibly enquire as to the prices for cars the next level up?
    ie.
    Megane Diesel
    Astra?
    Leon?
what else is in this category?

    Cheers

I would not fancy doing 600km/700km a week in a 1.0 litre Yaris or any 1.0 litre car for that matter. BTW there is also a brand new Yaris due towards the middle of the year, current model is going on 5 years old and showing it's age.

Fiat Punto Evo 1.3 Multi Jet diesel comes in at €12500 under the scrappage scheme and has a 4 year warranty.

Thats what I said to her myself.
She knows i had the Cordoba and asked how was that for me.Told het it was a great little car as a runaround but not as a hi-miler. and i was glad i bought the Octavia.. She said she would like an Octavia but wants to get away from that size car..

    Ass above,
Something hatch ( I know the Octy is hatch but to the layperson it looks bigger)

    So,

    Megane
    Leon
    Astra
    etc.
