Do not pay any attention to how much the dealer says he's giving you for the audi, or how much he says the skoda will cost you. All that matters is the difference, i.e. how much cash you'll have to give him. Then try and find similar cars in other delears and work out which dealer has the smallest cost to change versus the standard of the new car.

My thoughts would be that your car is probably worth around €6k-ish in the trade.

You should be able to pick up an Octavia 1.9tdi for €13k for an '08 and €16k fro an '09.

So I'd expect to pay €7k for the '08 and €10k for an '09. Your sums seem about right.

Of course if either car is particularly high spec or particularly scruffy then you need to adjust your figures.

It's hard not to be concerned about the price you're being offer sometimes. I totally agree that it's the cost to change that matters not what you're being offer on your own.

I had a dealer offer me €8k for my 07 320 M-Sport with 50,000 miles, has pretty much every extra except idrive. Very annoying! The dealer is okay though - he'll walk again (so I'm told)!!! :D
