Superb van, Older or newer model. TDI the way to go. SDI and non turbo lacking in power.

The father has a 00 SDI,engine is pretty bullet proof but like nophd08 said underpowered,TDI is the way to go.

Excellent vans!!! nice power in the tdi and they would run on air!!! Very simple vans and easily serviced yourself if you spent a bit of time looking around it!!

Run on air is a bit of an exaggeration. They are very hard on diesel and they are not that reliable either. Parts are expensive aswell when out of warranty. The Connect is a way better van allround.

All modern VW diesels have quality problems. Bodywork and interior are solid and give a positive first impression but whats behind the surface is often not so good. Look out for DMF clutches, turbos and more lights on the dash than a christmas tree. These issues keep popping up in Golfs, Passats and Transporter vans so the Caddy cant be any different. There are plenty of them on the road so they have fans but dont think they are bulletproof. The last of the bulletproof VW's was the mk2 Golf and Jetta.

I worked for a crowd who ran a fleet of them, all the newer model 1.9 tdi. Steer clear of the 2.0 sdi as it's very underpowed. Only major problems we had with any of them was the hydraulic clutch went on one, after 150k km, and the oil cooler went on 2, resulting in oil in the coolant system.

The annoying thing with them is they don't have engine temp gauges, they seem to be optional extras! I hate stupid penny pinching like that. The oil cooler problem was only detected due to the coolant warning lamp coming on as the coolant reservoir was over filled. (with oil!)
Luckily the engines seem resilient enough as no permanent damage was done.

I think the biggest mileage is a 06 with +270k km on it, and it's had nothing more than services done on it. It also wouldn't be unusal for them to go well over the service intervals!

I drove one myself for a few months, good power, comfotable driving position, good space.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

i'd have to disagree unless things have changed dramatically. I'm driving a 07 Connect at the moment, and though the loadspace is great and it has plenty of power and good driving position, the handling is awful. Not just this one, theres a couple of others in work which are the same. I've read transit owner forums and its the same story, cornering is like being on ski's. The cabin is also pretty drab up to 07. Havent driven newer caddy but old ones were great machines, and newer ones definately look to have a lot more driver comfort.

A friend of mine has one of these from new, he has had trouble with the dual mass flywheel, these can be replaced with solid items!

He also broke a front anti roll bar mount on very rough ground, cannot get parts seperate, bought bar complete with mounts and bushes, can't remember price but was reasonable enough!
Handy enough to fit, done it for him in the driveway with a jack and axle stands in about an hour and a half.

Great on diesel and plenty of power, most spare parts can be got from GSF or OTTO very cheaply if you are into a bit of diy!

    Sdi not worth a ****!

Have a 07 tdi with 98k on it. Starting to give a few problems now. Oil cooler went on it at 80k, bonnet pull snapped of in my hand. Great on diesel if you stick to 100kpm and have an empty van. Anything above that speed forget it, youll be throwing diesel into it. Bought this van new and am considering an 08-09 connect.
