    Hi folks,

I just have a couple of quick questions for ye that ye might be able to help me with. I'm going to be starting my last year of college in September(studying Engineering) and the plan is to move to Australia straight after with my fiancee. We have both already been in Australia on the one year holiday visa in 2006 and we are wondering what are the options that we have.

Is there a visa that i can apply for that does not require me to have worked a years worth of experience.

If there is a visa, will this work for my fiancee as well or would we need to be married.

I have a few more things to ask but i cant think of them at the minute.

    Thanks in advance

1: Most skilled visas require some experience

2: If one of you achieves a Skilled or sponsored visa the other can go as well as a defacto, note you will have to prove de-facto status. Not marriage just de-facto.

    thanks zambia,

i'm going to look into the skilled visa and see how much experience is needed. we should have no problem proving defacto status.

    cheers

I have a friend whose first engineering job was on the mines in Mt Isa. It's a bit out of the way, and not near anyway, but he stuck it out for a few years and now works in Brisbane. You'll find that many entry level engineering jobs haven't got the kindest conditions attached, but it is possible.

    From http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-specific-experience.htm
    Specific work experience

You will be awarded points if you have been employed for three of the last four years in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

    You must have been employed:

    * for at least 20 hours a week
    * in a paid position
    * at a skilled level in your nominated occupation or in a closely related occupation on the SOL.

Note: If you are using work experience obtained in Australia to meet this requirement, that work must have been undertaken while you were the holder of a visa authorising you to work.

Check out http://www.immi.gov.au for all the information you need

    Hi,

Just have a quick question about the recognition of collage exams done in Ireland for the points system??

I have completed a higher cert in business and also have insurance exams qualifications. The higher cert in business is NFQ level 6 and the insurance qualification is NFQ level 7.

Would I have the required points for a skilled visa??

I have 3 years experience in insurance and just can't see to work out the points, if any, that I would receive if looking for an extension on a WHV.

I will be going to OZ in about 6 months on a WHV looking for insurance office work if available??

so does this mean that i have no option in getting a visa without any work experience. i would ideally like to have my visa got and be heading straight to australia as soon as i'm finished college.

another thing i'm wondering is should i get in touch with an immigration specialist seen as my case is not exactly straightforward. can anyone recommend a good one

when i was in oz in 2005 i worked in a vineyard for 6 weeks and decided that i didnt want the second year visa so we moved on(big regret now). I ended up working in Port hedland for two months working on machinery in a salt mine.

I never considered that this work would count for the three months harvest work but i have just being told otherwise by a friend. He was told by a visa company that any work in regional Australia would count.

I'm wondering if any one could advise me on how i would go about getting proof of this work. Would it be best to contact the company directly or could i contact the tax office in Australia(All the work i done would be through my tax file number). I'm also wondering if there is a time limit on how long a person would have to apply for the second year visa after they have used the first year visa.
