Hi i am due to go to the UK in a couple of weeks for 2 days,i am on job seekers benefit and collect money every wednesday in post office and i am due to sign on at my welfare office also on the day(wednesday) i need to be in the UK.Was just wondering how long money would remain in post office for me to collect and do i go to the welfare office and tell them i will be away on signing day?Probably sounds stupid but like many i am new to this.Thanks.

Go in advance to SW to tell them you'll be away on signing day. They may facilitate you by asking you to sign on another day, but if that's not possible, you can ask to take two of the 12 days holiday allowed to you in the year and then sign on your return

If you intend going on holidays abroad, you should inform the Local Office two weeks in advance of your departure and complete form UP 30. All holiday payments will be made retrospectively when you return. If you go on holiday for longer than two weeks, you may be paid in respect of the first two weeks, but will not receive payment for any period abroad in excess of this.

If you get paid on a Wednesday, your payment would normally still be in PO till Friday and very possibly Saturday and Monday. You could check with the PO about this on any collection day. If you have to go down the holiday route for even two days, they may not release your payment to PO till after you sign on at SW office on your return.
