    Hi,

Could someone please give me some idea of how much I would spend on petrol per week. Its only my first car so I have no idea.

If I was to drive 50 miles per week in a 98 1.4 Opel Astra approx how much do you think I would need to spend at current fuel prices?

    Thanks

Most of that time on roads with traffic.

It's probably better than going through fields with cows... :-)

I'd guess a tenner should cover driving handy but drive it hard and it could be more.

Well that should be fine so. I was thinking €20-30

There are a lot of variables at play here though, so very difficult to know. Time spent in traffic, how heavy your foot is when not in traffic, etc all play their own part.

This isnt a car question its a maths question. An '98 1.4 Astra had an Urban economy rating of 7.8l/100km (36mpg) when new. It wont be new and you wont achieve that anyhow so lets say you average 9.4L/100km (30mpg). 50 miles is 80km. So you will consume 7.52 litres of fuel a week. 7.52 x 1.43 (price of petrol) = EUR10.75

Or just use the fuel cost calculator I made here :D :
    http://fuel.netcessible.com/FuelUK/FuelUK.htm
Note its a little more harsh as its designed for daily commuting distances of what you propose weekly and assumes some weekend driving, it came out to EUR12 (ignoring the arbitrarily currency symbol).
