Auctions are full of newbies who get carried away outbidding each other and end up paying over the odds. Those in the trade will either snap up the decent stuff or will let it slid if the bidding gets too high.

Crazy prices being paid at auctions in recent years considering you have no comeback.

i went to one and the prices were actually a joke.. some terrible conditioned cars going for dealer prices, went the next day to buy privately and saved 2k and got a clean car.

Go have a look and educate yourself on prices .

If you intend to bid , make sure the car you're interested in is not the first car your bidding on..

IE if you have the neck make small bids on other cars and withdraw from bidding early.
This way the auctioneer will know he can't bid you up too much on the car you really want cos he'll think you'll stop early

Some of the best cars weve had here came from merlin car auctions when they were in ashbourne. You have to know what to look out for though, plenty of rubbish too. My favourite shed to stay away from was an ex taxi Fiat Brava petrol with a diesel dash :pac:

Most of the good bargains don't actually sell as the dont meet the reserve. The one I went to I think only 5 cars actually sold the rest were just the dealers messing around making fake bids..,

I hate when they do that, I wanted to buy some ex fleet mondeos and this gobsh*te kept bidding them up, putting them out of my range. He was there every wed and sat at the same rubbish. He now is regularly at wilsons kingswood. He got stuck with our old van :pac:

The best cars to go for are finance repossessions but beware of outstanding finance. Choose wisely and youll get a quality car with low miles for half its rrp ;)

the best ones are the no reserve.. but they usually go for stupid money.. and merlin do all the finance checks and other checks on the car, it's covered in the fee. like the auctioneer was just pointing at me at like every second car he was selling and I clearly wasn't bidding and there was nobody around me..

very good deals to be had privately now, i wouldn't bother with auctions

You can buy a warrenty for the car for an extra fee. Shop around though private dealers are more desperate for cash buyers with no trade in than they let on.

As always with auctions do your research, Merlin prices are normally 50% below forecourt but cars will need some work. If you stick to budget and allow for repairs will get car well below retail.

Main reason for post is selling at Merlin, took a very long time to get paid, had to be very Uhm! difficult .

Any body with similar problem persistance is key, any help needed pm me.

That surprising to hear, after all, business is booming so they are hardly in any financial difficulty.
I dont know where you get the idea that the cars are 50% below retail. A retail quality car at auction will go very close (too close) to retail meaning at this time they are not really worthwhile. Sure you might get something that will never be fit to retail at a bargain price or at best something that is hard sold or needing lots of work at a low price but that is hardly comparing like for like.
