Degress from Institutes of Technology

Recently a friend of mine who is currently sitting his Leaving Certificate was wondering about degrees offered from Institutes of Technology such as Waterford and Carlow.

Waterford offers a B.A. in Criminal Justice Studies while Carlow offers a B.A. in Law (CW708) which claims to have graduates "well placed" for Blackhalls.

Are these enough on their own or would a post-graduate be recommended?

Waterford I.T, also offers BA (Hon's) in Law, which is a 3 year course. All graduates of this course, from 2008 on, are recognised by King's Inn's as having an approved degree.

    Hi OP,

I've just finished my law degree in Carlow last year, and really enjoyed it. The fact that our degree was from an IT and not a university like most other law graduates was something that myself and my classmates worried about during our time there. However, it hasn't stopped any of us from progressing. Most of us took on graduate studies, given the way the profession is at the moment, and a couple of us have taken jobs in solicitors and are begining to prepare for the FE-1's.

As the previous poster mentioned, the IT degree is now approved by the Kings Inns should your friend wish to go down that avenue. Just on a side note, we always found the lecturers extremely helpful and approachable in Carlow.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, that was a helpful post. I've generally heard very good things about the course in Carlow and the quality of the lecturers.
