    Loads shoot 6mm Variants .243 ;) 6mmBR 6XC etc

Only restriction is membership of an authorized range or a deer hunting Licence

a 6mm bullet is used in .243 /243 wsm/6mm BR/6mm PPC/6mm rem.I'm sure I left some out. I use a .243win myself for deer and find it a great round flat out to 200yrd.none of these calibers are restricted and can be licenced provided you show grounds for their use among other things

Target ammo is just that, For Targets.

.223 plenty good enough for foxes.

.243 is a fine deer round with a huge amount of ammo choice.

Target ammo is not designed for foxes or Deer.

Also rifle choice is also limited in non standard calibres

probably 243 wssm would be next but .243 would be the main easily available hunting round some target well capable low recoil deer round with a well placed shot, the rest would be more target rounds not as easy to get more specialized but not impossible there are a few good dealers that could get them ,but anything special usually costs.

ah very good i taught that shot placement was crucial and i know it is but obviously target ammo isnt ideal for animals. is it because the bullet weight is lighter that the target ammo isnt good for animals

Hunting ammo is designed to inflict all it's energy on an animal.

Target ammo is designed to punch a small hole in paper.

Hunting ammo is "generally " not as accurate as Target (bar a few rare exceptions.

However the difference is in real terms small as Target shooters compete over mm not inches!

223 is illegal for deer fine fox round,.243 is classed by the deer organisations as the min for deer also very good for foxes but some supers might see otherwise.the 6mm BR the BR stands for bench rest developed for bench rest target shooting.here a link to 6mm BR very good site http://www.6mmbr.com/6mmbr.html

thats the exact site im lookin at right now

so if i was to ask wat would be the better choice of gun that i would have less chance of getting grief off the super which one would it be

target ammo is usally full metal jacket which dosent mushroom on impact and can pass trough a animal and miss vital organs and keep going, also letting them escape to a slow a horrible death unlike hunting ammo which mushroom on impact which sends shockwaves trough the tissue and is safer to use

its not a case of getting grief once you have good reason for your gun and can safely use it and meet the criteria, you shouldnt have a problem.but some supers and chief super are just anti whatever gun.

so would fox be good enough reason for .223

Yes, but IMHO I'd try get the .243 as it's a dual purpose fox/deer round and easily available ammo :)

fox would be one of reasons that would taken into consideration on your application its a fine round perfect for humanly dispatching foxes.go to this link http://garda.ie/Documents/User/Commissioners%20Guidelines%20(as%20amended%2022nd%20Oct)%20in%20relation%20to%20Firearms%20Licensing%5B1%5D.pdf

I've read about the .243 Ackley Improved. Dont know anyone with one, but its supposed to be an excellent target and deer/varmint round.

The 6mms and .25 cals are excellent crossover calibres for foxing and deer. Could do an awful lot worse. Personally, I love more esoteric rounds, but the practical reality is that until handloading becomes easy to do cheaply and legally, you're better off with something easy to get and reasonably priced for hunting. Whenever things change though, I'll be shooting an interesting stable of rifles.

As 6mm rounds go, you wont go wrong with the .243 , Most important the selection of rounds sitting on all gun shop shelves is quiet important unlike more exotic rounds .You have the lighter rounds for foxes and mid weight for goats and the heavier for deer. Another advantage to the .243 is you can shorten the barrel to 20" or less and the shoot quiet well and with a moderator fitted noise and recoil are acceptable .
