First off, why are you changing?

They won't go forward in the snow and the cooling system is made of putty.

Ok... but what attracted you to the 1 Series... in every way its totally different to a Yaris. The fact you are asking what "kind of car is it" is why people are asking.

    Also which model 1series?

Apart from that, is there anything the Yaris doesn't/can't do that you'd like it to be able to? Any reason not to just buy a new Yaris?

They are by and large comfortable and reliable, though not Yaris reliable, a very basic and mundane car by comparison. Build quality and fit and trim are without question vastly better on the BMW (which of course you pay for).

The real question though is what engine is the one you have been offered? A 118d would be a good mile muncher, a 135i, while super fun, would not be ideal.

while i agree with most of that Matt, have to say the build quality of the yaris I would find better than the BMW... never found the one series or even the 3 series to have great build quailty....

Ill have to go look at the latest ones then, but my recollection of both (and I agree newer BMWs are somewhat "plastic") is quite different.

PS: Do you mean the "feeling" of the material and doors as I do or the overall reliability and build mechanically?

    the actual trim is fine...
it is the build quality i find a bit poor...... it just never seems put together well enough

Id stick with a Yaris, as they are cheap to service, fuel, tax, insure and buy parts for! Especially with money to tight to mention thesedays!

But I'd go for the 1.33 Dual VVTi engine as it has the same motortax rate as the 1.0 litre version!

Generally harder on fuel as it has a heavy rear axle and drivetrain. But RWD cars are more fun to drive, as they are built for motor sports!

If you are buying from a Bmw dealer check out the price of getting the service inclusive pack with it.

Fair enough, money must not be a problem. As the BMW will cost you a lot more in running costs! But it will be a nicer car to drive!

The VW Polo is another reliable option! If you want a similar sized car to the Yaris!

need a bigger car than the yaris thats the main reason for changing,
i know bigger car means more money but need it for work,
getting bmw for 3,500 less than anyone else would pay as i know the guy
thats why am keen on it,
he also said it is good on fuel

Ah, if you like it go for it!:)

Test drive it first though, just to see if you can live with it, as its a lot different to the Yaris! The 1 series is not much bigger then a Yaris! Just the engine!;)

show us a link to the BMW 1 Series and the price you are been quoted to get it at and we'll give you an opinion on wether he is doing you a deal or playing with numbers :D

are you trading the Yaris in against it?

You should get the car checked by a mechanic before you buy it, to check for anything that may be wrong with it :)

Did you really just make that up? Difference is minimum and it's because of greater power loss in RWD between flywheel and wheels.

48.7 mpg sounds a little optimistic for that car so don't be fooled into being attracted by it because its supposedly light on fuel! Maybe at a constant 80km/h you'd get that 48.7 figure. Id imagine the combined figure would be a lot lower than that!!
