    Hi,

I recently purchased a second hand HTC legend and I'm having problems with download data.

I previously had a w995 with a data limit of 250mb nd would be on the internet for most of the day and would never get anywhere near that limit, however only after having the legend a week I have gone over my limit (only noticed yesterday after checking how many texts I had left)

So since then I have downloaded a task manger and a net monitor ( off home WiFi) to check what is running, however whenever I kill the application it stops but could go on again afew min later it back running again eg stock, even thou I have knock off everything tht the programme can update, with the net monitor I have used 32mb today already and have been on less sites i would normally been on. Also I have made sure that mobile sites is turned on in the settings.

So my question is what could be running that could be using data or should I reset factory settings, completely stuck and need help, have been in a phone shop today and they didn't know.

Any help would be great and if you have any questions I will try to answer them.

    Thanks

turn off background data. should be a shortcut on the power bar in the home screen on the legend - if not its in settings--> accounts and sync

disadvantage is you don't get insta emails B-)

Ok have played with that a few times but the question I have with that is it says Below that "manage accounts" with my emails acc and also says stock news and weather, now with background data off these app ar still running but cannot update, right? but how then does the weather on the front screen update?

    thanks for the reply!

Get 3G watchdog watchdog from the market also to keep tabs on your data usage.

use opera mini for browsing the web. that will cut your data down a lot

That just turns off the Sync, not data. Applications that poll for updates would still have access.
Burning off data would be Settings > Wireless & Networks > uncheck Mobile Data

Is 3g watchdog better than net monitor? What's the difference?

Would opera mini work that well? Used it on my last phone and was very good. Why would it work? However the problem seems to be when I'm not on the internet, even thou I have background data off and also always on mobile internet.

Think I may just restore settings tonight see if that helps.

opera basically compresses stuff via opera itself. you request the website and opera compresses it and sends it to you so it cuts down a lot on data since you get a compressed version - but its still prefect like.

also you can lower image quality etc on it which helps a lot too...

sounds like background data doing the damage here... dunno how u can deal with that.. maybe disable the internet connection when you arent using the phone might work?
just a suggestion...i dont think there is a widget for it, but personally i have it turned off most of the time to save on battery even... or as they say disable background data..

i use 3g watchdog. i assume both are similar anyway... shouldnt be any difference

there is the advanced 3d watchdog you can buy (or probably download) it supposedly tells you how much data each application is using.. my thoughts are get that, see what it throws up as your problem app(s) and then uninstall them if you dont use them

I've heard that Skype uses a huge amount of data in the background. you might want to kill that, and only run it when you're using it.

I have this same problem too, I have enable backround data ALWAYS turned off, but when I get my bill, something keeps connecting to the internet every 8 to 11 mins, to download could be between 2kb & 30kb this happens every night & get loads of pages of bills for data internet.. its strange! been happening since I got the phone in november
