    Hi,
I know on most hair dye packs they recommend not to dye freshly washed hair, but what if you've some product in it? Im not talking much, just some mousse and serum at the end of my hair. Should I wash and dry my hair before dying it?

I have got my hair dyed at the salon with product in it, mostly a lot of dry shampoo or a little frizz cream. I'd be okay with mousse, slightly dubious on serum though if it is oil based, but I've never had a problem so far.

For home dye kits I've deliberately not used product after the last wash before dying it though.

I've never had a problem and I usually have some amounts of product in my hair, but as the previous poster says, maybe avoid anything oil based to be on the safe side!

Its for at home. I tried putting in a light brown/dark blond colour last night and it didn't take. It said to apply to unwashed hair but I washed/dried it before dying to remove the serum but still didnt take..... Think I might just leave it.
