Is the oil level at the max mark on the dipstick?
Does it do it all the time or only when engine is cold?

no oil is perfect, got the whole lot checked and stuff, its a fault with an oil sensor,it has to be replaced next service, just means when the rest of the dash lights go out after a few seconds,it stays on for say 15 seconds and goes out,

Explain it to the tester. Once it goes out I'll say you'll be ok. Just tell him you had the sensor on order but it didn't come in in time.

It will probably pass as it goes out, just a bit later.
If not it's a visual retest so if everything else passes it should be free to re-test.

cheers for the replys, yeah it has no bearing on the running off the car,its just as i said because the sensor is faulty the stays on a bit longer than the rest..its a common problem with the car i have...

I had a dodgy starter on an old car that would play up every now and then. I just left the engine running when I was waiting outside. Don't know if they restart the car within the test or if it would have effected the result but it passed anyway.

I always give in the spare key. Stay in the car and keep it ticking over. Old car and my test is always in the winter

i know where your coming from with this but even if there was no sensor problem with the car when the keys are turned on the oil light as well as all the other dash lights come one, where as all the rest will turn off after a few seconds the oil stays on that bit longer, this happens everytime i start the car..in the nct center the car waits its turn to go through, and i know they turn on and off, what if i disabled the light if that was possible??

Yea my car had to be jumped started for 2 days before test so I told nct guy not to switch off engine due to problem with starter. passed first time 10 yr old.

I always leave the car running. Saying that, the last time they checked it, the battery died! They had to jump it!

I now presume they will stop and restart the car as new regulations came in in 2010 that all warning lights on the dash have to work so as its now part of the test they will have to test it.

Also on any test I've been at, they don't always leave the car idle while doing the test.
