Car Dock Apps

Are there any replacement car dock apps?

Irritatingly, the HTC and Google ones don't seem to allow editing of them to fit my purpose.

Ideally, a car dock app (for my HTC Desire HD) would allow me to use the on board GPS navigation that comes with the phone, so that I don't have to use Google Maps (and pay for the download of information). It would also work in landscape mode. I would also like one that would use the text-to-speech functions on the phone to read out in-coming text messages.

I wouldn't have thought these requests would have been all that odd, yet I can't find anything that does it.

Why aren't you using the Goolge Car Home app?
Its works in landscape mode & allows you to add and remove shortcuts (to your locally stored maps GPS app).

It was never officially released for devices other than the Nexus One but you can find it around pretty easy, Car Home V2.

I have it, but it won't let me add/remove/change the apps on the screen. I can scroll between the two screens and it will let me select from the available options, but it won't let me change them, or the blank slates either.

Works for me on my Desire just fine.
You have 4 screens to play switch and move your apps around in.
